My partner wants to be a childminder

My H2B wants to use his qualifications to become a childminder. He had a hard time finding a placement to do this training because he is Male. I'm just wondering how open people would be to having a Male look after their children on a day to day basis. He is incredibly with children and I know he would be great.
TIA

We use a childminder and have done for over a year that is a husband and wife combo. Granted the wife is the main carer but he is brilliant too. He is permitted to look after them for 2 hours per day in an assistant capacity. My little boy LOVES him and I think it would be wonderful for children whose dads perhaps aren’t around. I’m sure there will be others who have differing opinions but what would be a focus for me is the quality of the setting, and the ofsted scoring too

I would be happy with a male childminder if he was DBS checked and had qualifications in childcare.

But different but the best midwife I ever had was a man named Andy! Some women declined him because of him being male but he was absolutely wonderful. Men shouldn’t be barred from typically “female” jobs, if your husband wants to become a childminder I hope he finds a placement :)

I’d be happy with a male childminder. Being male or female honestly wouldn’t be a factor for me.

We had a lovely male student early years practitioner at our nursery last year and everyone was looking at him like he had two heads! My kids bloody loved him and that was good enough for me.

I’d be happy. DS childminder has an 18 year old son who’s home for summer. He’s teaching DS to play football and DS adores him

I would love this. As a pp said it'd give our child a male role model as we are a same sex coupe.

I'd love this too! DH isn't able to be around consistently for DS due to his job, and I think DS would really benefit from a consistent male influence in his life.

Our nursery (while lovely) only seems to employ ladies over the age of 50 Confused it's quite strange.

I had a male nanny when I returned to work and it never occurred to me to have any concerns. Don’t worry about it.

QueenOfMyDomain · 02/08/2018 20:10

I was a childminder and I knew several male childminders. They always seem to have plenty of children to look after and were more than capable.
I don’t think it will be a problem.

There is a guy in Edinburgh who started as childminder and has now grown his business model, google daddy daycare to have a wee look. He definitely spotted a gap in the market.

We had a husband and wife combo and it was fantastic for my 2. I would be happy with a male childminder once I had met them

glamorousgrandmother · 02/08/2018 20:24

When I was teaching there was a male childminder locally. Not a problem.

I'd love it tbh... a male friend works in a nursery and is loved by all of the kids. It's great for children who don't always have a male role model around.

HSMMaCM · 03/08/2018 08:07

My husband works full time with me. I'll admit that some families are put off by it, but those are the ones we don't want anyway. He is great with the kids and we get lots of positive feedback.

Many years ago.. 30 odd yrs ago, When I took my NNEB, there was a lad in the year below me.
I wonder if he ever carried that on or did something else as he grew older.

Shame its such a so low paid job. We really do need more men in early years or primary school full stop.
