what generally happens reguarding childminder fees when the mindee is at a nursery session (at parents request)?
this is pressuming that the childminder is collecting and parents are working.

does the childminder still get paid during nursery hours? the child is 2 years.

Normally yes

I still charge when mindees are at nursery! Technically we are on call and responsible if child is ill etc.

nannynick · 31/05/2007 20:43

Yes, as the child is still in childminder under 5 ratio. Once the child attends is aged 4 AND is attending 10 educational sessions, then they can be counted as a 5 year old (in England) for childminder ratio purposes.

that is what I had thought, unfortunatley I dont think the parents realise this and are expecting a big reduction in their bill.

not sure how to tackle this one as it would not be worth my while keeping her on if so.
the mum is also a good friend.

Point out you'll still be charging, firmly.

bonkerz · 31/05/2007 20:56

Ive just had this with one mindees mum. I explained that i would charge full fee UNLESS she decided to drop off and pick up her child BUT she would also lose her place if mindee was ill or on half term etc etc. Also said she was welcome to ring around and check if any other childminder would take mindee and not charge! needless to say mindee still with me and parent pays without a moan!

thenewgirl · 31/05/2007 20:57

I guess that is the only answer. Im rubbish at money stuff!

do the parents pay the nursery fees too then?

I think this will affect their decision on how often to send her, which is good because she is such a young 2, and they planned to send her for 5 mornings 4 hours.

my cm charges the retainer for these hours (full fee £3.75ph, retainer £2.50ph), then she charges £1 each way for taking and collecting - so only comes to a little bit less anyway.

thenewgirl · 31/05/2007 21:06

oh that is interesting. If I charged a retainer fee then the combined cost of that and the nursery fee would probably mean they woulnt save much at all.
