Hi I am in the process of getting registered but coz i have pnd on my medical records i have had to go for a medical/psycological assessment whilst there i was reassured(not) that they needed to check i wasnt another beverley allett!!! how unproffessional and offensive they also said it would limit me on the number of children i can take in?? has anyone else been thro this and do you think i should write and complain to ATOS ORIGIN?

COMPLAIN!!!

Did you have a PND particularly bad? I had it, had suicidal thoughts blablabla (4 years ago) and it was no problem at all - i've been registered for 2 years now so not sure if it's changed but a lot of us on here have had PND and it's not been a problem.

How horrible for you

ditzyprincess · 31/05/2007 10:32

It was bad and i had it 3 times!! i realise they have to research carefully etc etc it was the comments i didnt need!
its that blooming PND label that is tatooed on your forehead and follows you around no matter how you try to shake it .....out of interest what treatment did you recieve?

Tribunal Case

The above case was not PND, but was regarding depression. Tribunal ruled that the applicant had to prove that they were suitable to be a childminder. Not good news, but may help you understand the viewpoint Ofsted take over this sort of thing.

Comments totally unncessary!!!!

I was on Fluoxetine (sp?) but only for couple of weeks, got bad side effects and ended up being cured immediately with Reiki healing so didn't go back to the Dr's. If you had it really bad and had it 3 times then maybe they need to do the assessment BUT the comments were totally out of order and I'd deffo complain!!!

Crikey - I read Nick's link and think I'd better give up now.

I was, thankfully (I now realise) registered by Social Services, very much pre-Ofsted, and had to give extra information to them about my history.

My PND was bad, very very bad. My treatment was pretty heavy-duty as well (not just anti-depressants) and took years to resolve.

Not sure what advice I can give really - I think that the comments made to you were completely out-of-order. I can understand where they are coming from (not the comments, just the extra checking required), because Ofsted do have to ensure that CMs are suitable - but PND does not turn us into some kind of incurable Hannibal Lecter.

I agree with making a complaint, but would worry about it affecting your application if they decided to get stroppy.

well i know a couple of teachers in primary school who are on anti depressions and they are in charge of 30+ children

dont think PND should affect your registration after all your not giving birth to these children. not sure what causes PND but a mix up of hormoans and a new baby dont help

just read the report
hope Dr Soni is not on your board doesnt sound to forgiving

I have suffered from depression on and off for 12 years. Been on all sorts of anti depressants and had counselling.

Was on antidepressants again after I had my son, and was still on them when I had my pre registration inspection (DS 5 months at time of inspection, just weaning of the Prozac now and he is 15 months).

Obviously had to tell inspector about the medication and explained that the depression is something that i have suffered from for years. Wrote all details on my Medical Form, as I know did my doctors, and really expected to have to see a psychologist for an assessment but never did.

Obviously my depression wasn't directly linked to the birth of my children (started 2 years before had my DD), but has been really severe in the past and on my medical records as an ongoing problem for the past 12 years.

I had no problems at all being registered. Hope that gives you some hope.

Do think that they were extremely unprofessional and i would complain if I were you!

i had very bad pnd(and i know other mn cmers who had/have it too), i also had normal(if you can call it that!) depression when i was younger and took an overdose.
I told my inspector allt his and like you had to have doctor fill out questionairre and have medical, but it was all fine, ofsted insp said she was very grateful i told her so someone else didnt ask her about it.took ages for doc to get of arse and do notes but it was all fine.
