I am going to be giving up childminding in about 7 weeks time after almost 17 years. I have got lots of mixed up feelings about it etc etc. Not sure why I think anyone on here wants to know, but I'm probably trying to get it to sink in to my head! Lots of stuff to sell if anyone is looking for anything...?

What will you do instead? Can't blame you for having mixed emotions. have a hug anyway (((((((((((((Blodwen))))))))))))

Thanks LoveMyGirls.. that is sweet of you. I am going to spend more time looking after my 85 year old father who has deteriorating vision. We have our house on the market too, and hope to move somewhere more rural. In the mean time, I thought I'd try and get some babysitting work daytimes or evenings (in child's home). I don't want anything I'm 'tied' to at the moment. All very up in the air really. Good news is that I've found alternative care for all my 11 mindees!

Wishing i lived down the road from you now

Seriously sounds like a nice idea, hopefully it will all work out. Changing your life is always scarey though isnt it? We've moving in about a week and i'm taking on new customers and i feel a bit odd because things are changing a bit.

blodwen · 30/05/2007 07:33

Good luck with your move next week - you must be very busy packing etc this half term. Are you moving far? Great you've got new children before you even get there! Well done.

We're only moving over the road taking on new children is a coincidence, one starts today and 1 starts tomorrow eeeeeeeek.

Haven't packed at all yet, we get the keys a week today! I just haven't got anywhere to put the boxes plus most stuff is in draws so we can just take the draws with us, i keep saying we should pack but dp isn't being supportive in that area, he says we can do it the day before i've said no we will be starting this saturday because at least then if the boxes are getting in the way we can take them to new house on wednesday, thing is i'm going to be busy painting, building, aseembling etc so wont be much time for packing but he's just not gettin it and im not packing on my own!

Lots of luck with your future Bladwen

Come and chat with us in the CM Club...we need your experience

blodwen · 30/05/2007 07:56

Thanks Katymac. I would love to come and chat - I will miss so many things about childminding. LoveMyGirls - packing sounds horrendous! I am still at the 'decluttering' stage . Haven't moved for nearly 20 years- lots of stuff!

It must be strange giving up after so long, good luck.

I'm finishng on friday after 4 1/2 years as a CM here in Scotland. DH posted south for 2 years, so it means I have to start from scratch with everything. It's annoying that all the training etc I have done over the past four years counts for absolutely nothing. It's going to be tight money wise for the next few months.

ladyoflincoln · 30/05/2007 08:23

good luck for your life after child minding. i think after 17 years you should be getting a long service medal!

blodwen · 30/05/2007 08:28

Thank you. Will you be childminding when you move down here then Saltire (I am on the South Coast). What an upheaval for you. Good luck with it. I bet Friday will be a hard day .

Bump for Saltire.

Sorry blodwen, I forgot I had posted on this thread.
At the minute I am thinking I will CM when I move. I have booked a place on a pre-registration course in fareham in July.
What's putting me off though is the thought of having to go through absolutely everything again - from scratch. Plus it means a few months (i'm hoping not more than 4) without me being able to earn, which will be hard.

Friday is going to be a hard day - not just beacuse of last day with mindees. The DSes have their last day at school, and they have never changed schools before, we have tears from them every night, plus I have to say cheerio to my friend, she moved here the same day as we did

blodwen · 31/05/2007 08:43

It seems so ridiculous that you have to start again with a pre-reg course etc Saltire. Too much bureaucracy is part of the reason I am giving up...
When will your ds's start their new school on Monday? How old are they? At least Fareham is a nice place!

OP posts:
saltire · 31/05/2007 08:45

They start their new school on the 11th. Our furniture gets picked up here on Monday and delivered on Wednesday. They are 9 and 7

blodwen · 31/05/2007 08:46

You must be up to your eyes in it then. Good luck and I hope it goes well for you .
