Due to my impending new job, I wont be able to do the nursery drop off or pick up anymore. I've found a childminder who will look after dd at the hours i need. She sounds perfect and is reasonably priced, too.

The only downside is that she doesn't drive, so will walk my dd the mile to the nursery. DD is 3, is this too much to expect? I know she runs around all day but she will be tired walking all that way home.

Advice is welcome.

Could she use a pushchair?

DD hasnt used a pushchair in 18 months. Not sure she'd be to impressed .

I'm still looking around, so hopefully will find someone slightly closer.

Buggy board?

KaySamuels · 29/05/2007 16:57

I think it would be fine to walk that distance at her age. Have noticed at our school's nursery a lot of people bring a scooter when they pick up the kids. Suppose it makes the journey home when tired more appealing. Would this be a possible option do you think? Nursery may even let her go on scooter, put it inside nursery, then go home on it.

yes its too much to expect. a 3 yr old wont walk nicely and will ask to be carried etc etc etc

its unfair on the cm

you should provide a buggy

dd will secretly love it, especially on the way home

TigerFeetFormerlyCheesyFeet · 29/05/2007 17:13

I'd stick with that cm as you obviously have a good feeling about her and that means a lot. If it were my dd, she would probably walk there but would definitely need a buggy to get back. Are you sure she would react badly to it? If we are out all day we take the buggy and dd just climbs into it when she is too tired to walk. If the cm takes the buggy, your dd has the option to use it if she wants to but she could walk if she wants to. Garbled, but hopefully yswim.

scooters are the prferred method of transport to and from nursery here too

or I'd try a stroller if your dd would go for it!

zoeuk1 · 29/05/2007 20:00

they have to have helmets for scooters though remember.

HappyDaddy · 29/05/2007 20:14

Thanks for the tips. I've found another who drives and sounds just as good. Result.

walking is much more healthy though
id still go with the non-driving one

PinkChick · 30/05/2007 08:34

are you still in canada?, i think a little walk like that could be ltos of fun, my dd was walking everywhere at that age!out of choice, not being asked too
