i got my first tax return in in april, have been unable to do the online as it keeps saying page cannot be displayed(??)so am filling it in this week.
now when i had business advisor from surestart over a fewweeks ago i told him about the few grants i got for me to start up.
he said i may have to include these in my income..but would get back to me if i did....he didnt get back to me, i rang him for something else recently and he ddint mention it...so would i have to include them as income, even though it wasnt cash in my pocket, they were used wholly to buy equiptment ie: storage for toys, art table, toys, safety equip etc= and with all of them i had to actually buy the equip[ment first then claim back the money once heyd seen reciepts.the longer i leave filling it in the more scared im becoming of it

I don't know but form what I do know of taxation if you have spent the money on goods for the business you won't have to pay tax on it anyway.

Ring the guy back- or ring the tax office to ask

When I started up my network co-ordinator told me to write the grant in my earnings for the month in my accounts book, and then put the purchases through as expenses as I bought them. So they cancel each other out I guess. Do you still have your receipts?

PinkChick · 29/05/2007 08:39

yeah i have all of them but the business advisor told me if i fall under certain thresh hold i only have to fuill in the boxes(earnings/outgoings/difference) so now im gunna have to list everything? is that right?..just a bit nervous of doing it and doing it wrong!

hang on min, so yes, in MY recipet book the grants are there followed by the items i bought..so if theyre already minused out, does that still need to be detailed in return?

The money I got when I started had to be spent within a timeframe and then receipts given to prove what I'd spent it on. I was told to just ignore that chunk i.e. grant + relevant receipts.

Not sure what's right though.

PinkChick · 29/05/2007 09:26

yes, i had to buy the items within certain couple of weeks or before march with one other..its not like ive 'earned' the money or spent it on myself, it went straight into business, so seems mad to have to put it down only to take it back away??does that make sense?
