As I am just getting ready for work, wondered if anyone else is working today? I've got a short day, only 4 hours work today.

Anyone else working, or do you all have the day off?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LoveMyGirls · 28/05/2007 08:12

Day off Can't relax though because I have lots to do, washing, paperwork, activities to plan etc

FairyOnTheChristmasTree · 28/05/2007 10:23

NannyL · 28/05/2007 11:59

rowan1971 · 28/05/2007 12:01

Trying to work from home, while mn-ing/breast-feeding/refereeing fights. Currently not getting much done.

Katymac · 28/05/2007 14:13

Only paperwork

I am having to lay off 2 staff - cos we have no children & not start a third lady I have just employed (due to start next week)

So I am calculating pay & leave & stuff

Feeling very crap

collision · 28/05/2007 14:21

Katymac

Is this a new situation that there are no children? Is this the new nursery? for you.

Katymac · 28/05/2007 14:26

It's not the nursery - it's childminding

We have lost 7 since Christmas and not got any new ones

I have some starting in Sept - but I don't have enough cash as I have used all my reserves (iyswim)

I'm sure more children will turn up but I can't wait - I must give my ladies notice

I don't know if I need to give 4 weeks notice of laying people off - but I think it only polite

Katymac · 28/05/2007 14:31

3 left this week (well gave notice)

All for perfectly valid/normal reasons

nannynick · 28/05/2007 15:04

Katymac, oh dear... think positive at least you have some starting in September. I think you need to give whatever notice you had agreed in contract, so could be anything from 1 week to 4 or more weeks. You may even need to look at redundancy pay if any have worked for you for 2 years or more.

No all less than 2 yrs

& I am only laying them off - not sacking them/redundancy
Thank goodness

But they might get other jobs

I have lost more than 50% of my monthly income & I can't afford to keep paying them

nannynick · 28/05/2007 15:08

Rained all the time today while I was working. Had 2.5 year old and had to be out of the house - due to construction work going on - so we went on the Steam Train (Watercress Line, Alton) so we kept reasonably dry.

Wish the rain would stop... I need to clear the car out, it's filthy.
