Having an aunpair wobble

Hello everyone

I’ve managed to find someone who seems like a lovely au pair to start with my family in September - but I’m having a real wobble about moving to an au pair! Is this normal?

Until now have luckily had a full time nanny 4 days a week but really can’t afford it anymore ( it has always been a stretch) as currently going through separation.

My youngest will be nearly 4 in September and can start school nursery school hours. Eldest is 6. I only need pick up 3 times a week and drop off two mornings. Does this sound ok? Au pair is older and has some childcare experience. Eldest can be tricky though. It is a 20 minute walk.

I don’t know I’m just worrying!

Hi crumpets
Sounds like your situation is ideal for an au pair. I know it probably feels like a big change and it did for us; but we're now on our third and looking to hire a fourth. All experiences been good. If you take references and set things up well at the start it shpuld be fine. An au pair wont be initially as good as a nanny at cooking necessarily or having loads of initiative about things to do with them, but thats stuff you can guide on.
HtH!
