Troop in name for new childcare venture - any negative reaction?

I would appreciate thoughts and reactions to a childminding service with the word troop in the name, ie. '(Name's) Troop [Childminding]'.

Looking at the definition it makes sense but I just wanted some feedback as to what you would immediately think of - good or bad - from the name. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I think some may think it was a bit ‘military’ for them and think it would be quite disciplined as a troop is how the military are described. I wouldn’t mind, but I am from a military background so maybe other non military folk might have issues?

It sounds military to me - like you expect quite a lot of discipline. I would take a lot of convincing to sign my child up (absolutely nothing against the military or that ethos, but absolutely not for me)

Like monkeys? I’m ex military but would think of monkeys first and then girl guides (people of a certain age always refer to a guide troop.)

It would work well if your name begins with T, eg. Trudy

To me it sounds as if you'd have quite a lot of children, which may be offputting to some. It somehow feels a bit negative.

NapQueen · 12/06/2018 14:19

Yeah it sounds like you have at least 10 kids.

What about "Name's Club"? Or s9me sort of alliteration? Debbie Daycare or Chelsea Childminder?
Do you need a business name?

Beyondourmeans · 12/06/2018 14:20

For me it conjours up:

  • a group of performers/circus act
  • military
  • large group of children

So not great. But I think the childminder name thing is a bit weird as generally parents talk about the actual name of the person rather than their business name. I don't know any that have caught on.

hibbledibble · 14/06/2018 13:51

It's a negative connotation for me too sorry. Same as those above.

Childminders locally don't tend to have a business name, as everyone refers to them by their first name, unless they are a group of childminders working together, which makes sense.
