Providing nappies?

With the increase in pull ups/nappy pants being provided for children instead of nappies, I’m seriously considering providing them included in the cost. I can’t get on with them and having asked on here previously, I would be unreasonable to ask parents to provide something different for my own convenience.

I also have a total of 7 little ones at the moment (all part time) and it’s complicated making sure I always use the right ones on each child!

What do other childminders and parents think?

I provide nappies as part of my charges, that way I only need to take enough of each size to cover who I have that day in my own changing bag (backpack). I advise parents that is what I do & I don't normally have any problems.

I'm in a nursey and parents provide nappies
They send in a pack and we put them in a named box
It's not hard to make sure each child has their own nappies and wipes

This is good in theory but often different nappy brands suit different children. DD could only get on with little angels but could only use huggies wipes on her...if you only provided one option we would have been pretty stuffed

I work in a nursery and feel your pain with pull ups... especially when child has poppered vest, tights, dungarees and shoes with laces on. Takes forever when you have 10+ nappies to do.

I think providing would be fine but be flexible if child needs specific wipes/nappies.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 25/05/2018 18:32

insancerre that’s exactly how I do it now, but I suspect I’m out and about a bit more than a nursery, plus being in my home, I have seven packets of nappies and wipes to store.

It was fine when I only had two in nappies but things have grown!

I completely get needing a specific type and this is why I’m stalling, but pull ups are such a pain, I want to weep each time Grin

You could go really radical OP....cloth nappies 😊 would involve more washing on your part tho 🙈

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 25/05/2018 18:39

That was also conserved as I’ve had minders in them and happy to accept them, but I’m busy enough and don’t keep on top of my existing laundry. Blush

That's the only downside

I've explained to all my parents that changing nappy pants takes me much longer and is a distraction from the normal play around nappy changes as well as taking me away form spending time with other children particularly with 3 babies who wear them and have numerous poo explosions ( 1 baby 2 leaks in 4 hours, 1 another leak same day) They are all happy to send me normal nappies that come in their bags daily, I keep 2 for each child in zip up bags that are packed the night before into my going out bag.
One did say she found it hard to change her child so she watched me do it and couldn't believe how much easier it was (previously stripped off) and now says I wish I had known you could do it that way 5 months ago.
I find different baby shapes need different brands of nappy as well as sensitive skins.

hibbledibble · 27/05/2018 20:10

You could say you don't accept pull ups. I sent my DD to a nursery in the past that didn't accept them, parents were happy with this.

Including in the charge is ok as well.

As a parent who has used cloth nappies, I would want this to be optional though, as I hate the amount of landfill that disposable nappies generate.

Mymadworld · 28/05/2018 13:00

I ask parents not to send pull-ups unless they are potty training (or getting ready to) same for dungarees/outfits with multiple poppers - none have minded in the slightest and I'd rather they provided own wipes/nappies as the cost can really mount if you've got multiples in nappies.

Tbh unless there's a particular reason why, I tend to just use one pack of wipes for all children at a time & alternate each day or when I remember.

Yukbuck · 28/05/2018 18:56

Allergies aside... most nappies fit all. I work with toddlers and I've never met a nappy not fit any of them.. it's just the way you secure it. I find aldi nappies the best and they are often really cheap during the baby events. You could stock up then. Or just say no pull ups. I literally don't see the point in pull ups at all. They are a complete faff to pull on and off. Especially with a poo. I don't even use them for toilet training. If a child is ready then they are able to go straight to underwear.

jannier · 29/05/2018 08:53

Yukbuck - 25 years of working with children definitely some nappies do not fit some children as the sizing and shape vary so you get some that fit one make 4 but leak out of another. some times fit sometime absorbency. I have one child now who I know will leak at least once a day if dad has been shopping as he buys a set brand when mum goes he's fine different brand same size......and I know how to fasten a nappy.

Yukbuck · 29/05/2018 10:19

Okay fair enough.. must have been lucky then. Aldi have never failed me and the kids really vary in shapes/ height / sizes.

bbqseason · 11/06/2018 19:44

@yukbuk you don't pull off pull-up nappies, you tear their sides and they come off easily then with no issues if have pooed etc

It’s not hard to make sure each child gets there own, but it is hard to store multiple packs of nappies and wipes and have to swap the wipes each time. I’m lucky at the moment that I’ve only got 2 in nappies, but if both packs are full, it takes a lot of room to store them. I wouldn’t have room to store anymore packets in my cupboard.

If I had more using them and they were in the same size, I would consider putting nappies in the daily charge. I don’t think it would cost all that much tbh. I’ve just googled and Aldi nappies are around 7p each, so 3 changes a day is only 21p, for the ease of it, I think that’s quite worth it.
