Car Insurance for Au Pair

Hi. I'm after some help. Our insurance provider has previously had no problem insuring au pairs. They've now refused to quote for a new Polish au pair (aged 20) arriving next week. We've had a Polish au pair of the same age before - no driving issues - and that was fine.
I'm at a loss what to do - the school run is a key part of the duties (pretty much the only thing that we really need an au pair for!) and if there is no car insurance, there's no point in having an au pair.
Any advice? Any recommendations? I'm at my wit's end!!!!! None of the online insurers will quote and I've got a local insurance broker looking into this. Please don't recommend Stoneshield!!!!

Can you change your insurance for an open-drive policy? There might be an age restriction on it though. We only recruit au pairs aged 25 or over for car insurance reasons as it costs an absolute fortune to insure anyone younger than that here.

That's a really good point for ongoing and I'll certainly change my "recruitment policy" for the future.
I've just had a quote for £1700 for a Skoda worth £4500.... seems brutal. They say the issue is she's not a UK resident - is there a way to file some paperwork to make her a UK resident for the duration of her tenure?

I'm in Ireland, not the UK so I can't help with residency issues, unfortunately. And it's only likely to get worse once Brexit happens I'm afraid. My open-drive policy allows anyone with an EU licence over 25 to drive my car and I assume that an open-drive policy in the UK would be the same, but once you're not in the EU anymore it's probably going to get tougher to insure foreign nationals/foreign licence holders.

I haven't found non-EU residents to be any more expensive that EU, but again they've all been over 22 with 4 years driving experience.

OP - try Admiral they're usually the cheapest. It may be though that she's not been driving for long enough?

£4500 for the car is irrelevant.

Third party liability is covered to £5 million with most policies.

That is what you are paying for,

She's been driving 2 years - just the same as our previous au pair.
