How much does wraparound care cost??

Can anybody tell me how much they spend on childcare for school age children?

I have a 2 year old and a 5 month old and currently DH stays at home with them as I am going back to work. When they are school age it would be nice for him to find a job - but obviously if his earnings are heavily negated by wraparound care costs for 2 children, we may have to rethink.

Could your husband get a job with hours different to yours?

I’m in outer London - breakfast club £7, after school (to 6.10) is £16.50.

Don’t forget that if both of you are working you will prob be eligible for tax free childcare which will give you a saving of 20% of fees per child (up to £10k, but even holiday + after school don’t come close to that).

SE here and £27.50 per child for an hour before school, three hours after and breakfast and tea. The cm is superb and the children adore her but it gets very expensive, very quickly especially when you add the cost of after school clubs onto it as she obviously still charges whilst the children are at the club (and very kindly goes back to pick them up from the club which means they can actually do the club). All cm in the area charge a similar rate as does the local wraparound club.
Everyone always said that childcare would be so much cheaper when they start school. Yes, it is but it's still expensive.

I really want him to, but I am forseeing a London commute in the future for me and I need to be able to plan for having to leave early and be back well after school finish time anyway. I suppose if he can start later there is a chance he can at least do the drop offs which would be helpful :)

Jassy thank you yes that's a really good point with the tax free childcare; at least I can factor in a 20% saving to whatever I manage to find!

squidge I'm definitely considering a childminder; DH is not as keen though as he prefers more structured settings and more than one carer available. Maybe I can talk him round!
