Hi all, need some help. I'm in email with an EEc national who speaks perfect English, who I found on an au=pair web site. She wants to live in and has some childcare experience, and qualifications, although is young (20). She wants between 100- 200 per week.
Is she still classified as an au-pair? or is she now an aupair plus or mother's help.
What do you think?
And should I be doing all that proper tax stuff? or can I still not consider her to be an employee and give her, a handsome allowance?

You can give your au-pair any allowance you like, law aside!

What will her week consist of workwise?

2 DC's school runs, plus entertainment after school. Housework . being available to pick them up if unwell, this hasn't fortunately ever been a recurrent theme!
The housework is what i'd call average. So nothing too hard.

Then I guess you should have a very happy AP if you decide to take her on!

I think that if you pay her more than £100 per week, income tax, employer's tax and NI will kick in, whatever you call her.

The more I look at that description , the more I'd like to do it!!!

I think at £100-£200 per week she is an employee with all the usual responsibilities. And it doesn't really matter what her job title is.

I'd say she would be a live in nanny recruited from overseas. Not sure how the tax question kicks in if she isn't a UK national.

You don't have to be a UK national to pay taxes. You just have to be eligable to work here.
