How was it?
I am a teacher and due to go back to work part time in september. I will be working three days a week and one of the parents I know reminded me she was qualified to be a childminder.
At the moment she doesn't have any mindees and I think she would be good.
I do have some reservations the main one being .. would it be awkward if I wasn't happy with everything?
I am lgoing to look for CMs closer to home as she is a little way away from us but wondered if any of you had experience of this.
I taught her child for two years but would not be his class teacher again

If she's a professional childminder she should be used to dealing with any issues from parents, and you should be treated as a parent and her employer, rather than someone who taught her child. That part should be irrelevant, especially if you will not teach him again.

Ask her for a trial run?

I have no experience of this, i agree with her having to be professional and keeping things confidential and a trial run is a good idea, I normally say during the first month either of us can end the agreement if we're not happy or the child isnt settling.
Also as a childminder would like to politely point out we are not employed by the parents we are self employed, people thinking we are employed implies we don't run our own business which we do, it's hard work, lots of paperwork, pay our own tax and NI etc etc we run a service that people pay for. Sorry I will step down from my soapbox now.

Agree teaching her child shouldnt come into it.

I have minded the children of my daughters' teachers, ( Senior level) it was never a problem. School was school and DD didn't mention it to her friends either.

I love looking after teachers chidren, I have 7 teachers on my books and have looked after siblings when they came along also.

Sorry to offend, I didn't actually mean the parent would be the legal employer, but would be employing childminder's services as anyone else would, and should be treated as anyone else would. IYKWIM?
