Nanny in their own home = childminder or not

Hi, just advertising for a nanny and had a response from someone who wants to have my children at her home-is she still a nanny or is she a childminder? If she’s a childminder assuming she would need to be registered etc? Just trying to decide whether this is worth further discussion or not? TIA

A nanny cannot care for children in their own home - regularly - could pop in once for an errand etc. To care regularly in their own home they need to be a registered childminder unless you are needing less than 2 hours care per day.

Sounds like this is someone trying to get around being legally registered and insured. Nanny's work from your home not theirs.
If she is working for more than 2 hours a day and getting paid for an under 8 she needs Ofsted registration as a childminder

I think she would be a childminder and would need to be registered as such.

A nanny works in the employers home (ie, you). A childminder is self employed and works in their own home.

That’s really helpful thank you.

I would be wondering why they needed to be in their own home.

They have a good reason but I think they need to look for a different type of role; this has been useful as it’s confirmed this isn’t the right fit for us.

Latest exemptions list is here: www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/645611/Exemptions_EY_and_childcare_reg_handbook.pdf

Good decision to look for a different type of role, as a nanny cares for children in the child's home, not their [the nanny's] home.

Is she “just” a nanny or is she also a registered childminder?

I am both so in theory can have children at my house or theirs
