Free hours of childcare

Good morning all, I am new to this site so I am hoping someone may be able to help me.

My current situation is that I am a single mother of a 16month old boy; his father (my ex fiancé) left me for another woman he had been seeing from work. I work full time Monday to Friday and so does my ex. He works as an unqualified teaching instructor.

So my little boy goes to nursery 5 days a week, that being said I currently claim child tax and working tax credit which includes the child care element. his childcare costs amount to approx £900 per month and his father pays me £190 per month towards that.

Now my question today is this; my ex has requested a copy of my little boys birth certificate (which is fine) but when I asked him why he needed it he said that he thinks he is entitled to some free childcare hours because of his profession. I have doubts that he is actually using it for that because I don't think he would be entitled to anything like that but I may be wrong, could anyone advise me if this would be the case?

many thanks xxx

No 16 month old are entitled to funded hours. Some from 2yrs and all from 3yrs will get 15hrs, 30hts for those with working parents.

Look up details of FEET (Free Early Education Two year olds) on your local county council website. It might be that scheme - but child is not old enough yet.

Might he be talking about the Childcare Voucher scheme?

Yes he might be talking about childcare vouchers or an employer’s salary sacrifice scheme
