Childminder - going rate

I’m in Cheshire, not the poshest area but relatively well off. What do people normally pay for a childminder?

I’m paying £40 a day Inc food and outings but not nappies / wipes. DC is almost 3yrs. Hours are 9-6pm. Two childminders working together and they have max 7 children a day, mostly aged 2+, just one baby.

I’m happy with what we pay but a friend mentioned normally the cost lowers at age 2 (she’s been there since age 1) and actually if anything I thought our CM could charge more but have not suggested this!

Anyone care to share what they pay?

I paid £4 per hour, per child for my childminder. 8am-5pm. Snacks provided but no meals/outings. Flat rate didn't change depending on age.

For nurseries, the ratio changes when the children get older so you will have less adults looking after more children. For childminders, there is always a maximum of 3 per adult, occasionally 4, which is probably why the fees are not going down in that particular setting. I hope I am right though, I might be wrong on that point.

I’ve never heard of a childminder child charging different rates for different children- at the end of the day we have a set amount we need to earn to make a living, regardless of how old our mindees are.
I’m in Cheshire and my day rate is £36 for an 8 hour day, £38 for a 9 hour day and £40 for a 10 hour day.
I include all meals/outings but not nappies, wipes or formula. I also work with another minder :-)

Ok thank you, I think perhaps I am confusing it with nursery, my other DC went to a small nursery at this age and the fees reduced at 2yrs but that makes sense as they had less staff / in a different room type thing.

I am actually wondering if my CM could charge more! I have been paying the same for 2 years and I was going to suggest to her a slight increase (only because she is so lovely and works so hard) but it actually sounds like her fees are fine (£5p/h)
