Can anyone help me out with how I go about getting a nanny? What things are acceptable (in terms of hours and start times)? How much do they cost? Is it even a nanny I need?? I have no idea. I'm looking at an NHS shift pattern. 7am to 7.30 pm or 7pm to 7.30am. Five children. Four of them at school, littlest is 2 so can go to nursery during the day. Or all of them go to bed between 7 and 8 and get up between 6 and 7.30. So if I work days it's possibly a long day for a nanny. Or two shorter sessions doing drop offs and pick ups and feeding breakfast and tea and getting bedtime sorted. Or if I work nights it's sorting bedtime and being in the house until everybody has woken and needed breakfast. I have a sofa bed downstairs or a spare bottom bunk in a girls room so places to sleep. I am single so don't rely on OH at all. He sees children at weekend and one or two nights in the week but I don't particularly want to leave a key with him as don't want him to have access to my house whenever he feels like it.
Sorry that turned out really long. Can anyone help me? Or do I give up on the hospital and just try doing a bit of cleaning in school hours for the next 15 years??

I'm not sure you could ask a nanny to share a room with your child and given the shifts that you need a sleep over nanny will happen often, I think they need their own room.

I could easily put two girls together in one room and have a spare room so that's not a huge issue

What things are acceptable (in terms of hours and start times)
I have done 7:30am-7:30pm. I currently do a one day job which is 7am-6pm. I have heard of people doing 14 hours a day but that would be less common. 11-12 hours is pretty typical.

How much do they cost?
Need to know more information... how many hours per day, how many days per week, city or rural location?

I'm looking at an NHS shift pattern. 7am to 7.30 pm or 7pm to 7.30am. Five children.

Not sure who you would get to cover the overnight. The start time is also quite early, as I guess you may need someone from 6am?

Some sort of live-in care perhaps, though it may be a bit much for an au-pair, may suit a university student if their lectures fit and you are in a university location. May suit some nannies who do live-in.
