Answer is NO. Ofsted only regulate certain types of care, I doubt teaching gym in a school would require individual registration.

If someone is employed by the school, the school I would have thought would have it's own policys regarding checks that need to be done prior to that person working. An Enhanced CRB check I suspect would be required. Have you raised concerns with the head teacher?

i have a meeting with the head in morning, but this person i feel does not have the right nature to work with children, she gets them excited about something, then shouts at them for being excited, gets out their favourite activity, then decides one child(not part of group) runs underneath it, so snatches activity from the childrens hands..she aslo teaches gym to reception and hear they are quite happy with her, so maybe the problem is she cant deal with 10 3-4 yr olds?, if so she shouldnt have accepted job and took money off us each week only to shout at our children, iam very angry that she has caused trouble for me after i questioned her, and i feel she shuold not be able to work with small children again

PinkChick I saw your thread earlier and was for you. I think enhanced CRB check would have been performed by school prior to hiring the instructor. See what the Head says tomorrow, it might help to set your experience down on paper, so that you can concentrate on being calm and rational whilst discussing this (brandish the list at him if you feel the urge) HTH

thanks Julia5, i have been jotting it down tonight as ill have two baby mindees with me tomorrow and dont want to be sat with head for half an hour with them, plus older mindee is coming at 9.30 so wont have time anyway?
dp just said though, from the way she has portrayed it, i 'went after' her, when in actual fact i had left to complain to centre and she came up toward me, hence my bringing it up with her.

No, if you run an children's activity as opposed to providing childcare you don;t have to be registered.

As a gym instructor though she may have some sort of registration with an organisation, either a franchise or a gymnastics regulatory body.

You're welcome PinkChick. Let us know how you get on. Remember, you are a strong confident business woman with a lot of experience of small children. x

hi guys, thanks for taking an interest
well i wrote the whole fiasco down for head as i had 3 mindees today, to woud be wwith me and one coming at 9.30 , but when i got there, the head pleased with me to speak with her as well?
so went to her office, explained briefly what happend and she told me what had been said...she said this girl had gone to her manager apparently in tears saying i scared her!, i was agreesive and i heckled her all the way to her car and she was frightend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i told the head exactly what she di/said to the chlidren in the class and head said to me, yes she was out of order and would I as a proffesional childcarer please speak to her to give her some tips on how to work with chlidren!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..if it wasnt dd's head, my answer would have started in F and ended in off!..i said no, as she has been like this with every child for the last 6 weeks now and i dont believe she has it in her to change, i said she was not young, but uncaring, harsh and had no ability to interact with children of that age....best of it is, she actually teaches reception and year 1 gym in the school and the teacher thought it was going so well thats why they put something on for nursery!
so drawing to a close, head apologised as she said she had got it very wrong, so i stopped her and said NO, in theory this was a fantastic idea, but the instructor was the problem, she aske dif i would go back and i said no, she then said she has spoken to one or two of the other mothers and although they have backed up my complaint, they said they WOULD take their children back!..hey ho!
she then clsoed door and asked me to tell her if the child who in handicaped, was naked in the class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..the little tot had taken her trousers off so she was like the other girls, her mum put them back on after 2 mins!, she had pull up and t-shirt on

oops, posted too early!

so shed blatemtly lied about that poor child????

as we wer walking out i mentioned about her picking the children up to move them and the fact she had told them they were all being silly when she made them sit with hands on heads..things came out which id only rememberd just then and not in meeting and by the time we reached the door she was thanking me for telling her and wa fuming at her.ALL truth, no exageration(as if id ned too!).so she said she would let me know what happend next!

she also told me that shed spoken to centre duty manager and he had sang my praises, confirmd i was NOT in any way aggressive, i did not heckle her all way to car and that her attitude and behaviour where disgusting!..cheers pete!.so basically she was seeing who's "story" fitted most closely!...we shall see...still done know which aprents told her they would go tho cos the ones i have spoken to have denied speaking to her and said they dont think they would go back either?????????????

Good for you PinkChick, confrontation is so hard, you obviously handled interview with the Head very well. AND with mindees in tow. Had to take mine along to PTA meeting on Thursday afternoon that was hard enough.
