C/M club: anyone fall pregnant while doing this?

I've just found out I am pregnant, and it is early days and anything could happen etc etc

But what is the protocol about this sort of thing. (This wasn't planned btw, just a sort of happy event).

Any advice, must admit I feel overwhelmed and this was one of the first things I started worrying over!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I'm hoping to try at the end of the year so would be interested in what people have to say. I know others on here have just taken a couple of weeks holiday, not sure what I would do. I also know people in RL who've stopped for several months and gone back to it.

Lunavix has a young baby and was pregnant during minding from what I can remember. Also, oh let me think who else was.......

Well, this will be a planned c-section as I have had two and I will need at least 6 weeks recovery. I would hate to have to start all over again plus I am only allowed 3 under 8!

I have just had a little one (born the 20th March), and have taken a few months off.

If you pay NI contributions, you will get mat allowance (about £110 a week), so not too bad. I have also arranged that the mindees are going for the mat period, and then coming back. Depends on the parents and how well you know other childminders I suppose.

Congrats on the news. You will find that you just slot the baby in (this is number 2 while childminding) and there are no problems.

Hi i had baby 19 feb, parents were very supportive i told them at 9 weeks as i had severe sickness and was hospitalised. unfortunately i had to give up as sickness did not end and spent most of pregnancy in hospital.
I am starting again beg june one of my mindees is coming back as she wasn't happy with childcare arrangments.

Congratulations

my friend had a baby while she was childminding and had 4 wks off she then had another baby 2 yrs later and this time has decided to have 6mths off
her parents have been fab about it and all us childminders who could help have helped ie if we had a space we loaned it for 6 mths which has helped her and us, anyway she has just gone back to work last week and said it was nicer to have the longer break esp as she also had the toddler aswel

Thanks everyone - I am not sure when I should tell them. Surely after the very long wait to 12 weeks, as anything could happen really.

Any ideas on how to proceed? Very nervous about this!

My c/m is pregnant - due in June ( very excited!!) She told us after 12 week scan - I certainly wouldn't have expected her to tell us earlier - and is taking 8 weeks off - one of those is one of her 2 weeks hols a year. She did her best to find me someone to cover spaces, which was great (although hasn't worked as yet, but I'm, SE so not too worried...)

Congratulations, btw

lunavix · 22/04/2007 14:21

aww

congrats!

I fell pregnant 7 months after starting childminding (roughly) I had two under 5s plus my son, and had just taken on three schoolies.

I told parents at 12 weeks, when we told everyone. It had been a struggle not to tell them before, as I suffered major all day sickness but struggled on! I told them it was their choice what to do, and that I planned to take two weeks off after the birth and then return to work - I knew that the under 5s were going to school, so it would just be the schoolies, and while that means long days in the holidays, two hours a day the rest of the time isn't too stressful.

I planned to take the two weeks off exactly after my due date, and if I needed more (eg if the baby was late) it would be unpaid. Both sets of parents could be flexible/find cover if it came early. As it was, I started my two weeks then had an extra week unpaid, then returned. It was a little bit stressful but everythings fine now, at 8 months!

Not everyones as nuts as me - if you are already childminding (I think if you will have been minding for 20 something weeks before having the baby??) and have paid NI at £2.10 a week, you can get around £110 a week statutory maternity pay for six months (possibly nine now) there is always the chance if you have worked that time, but not paid NI, they'll let you bulk pay it so you still get maternity pay - that's what they did for my friend. I asked for my unpaid to be covered by Maternity and it was.

I didn't want to lose my mindees, which is why I returned so soon. Any more questions, just ask!

crace · 22/04/2007 17:57

Here is one, can I hire an assistant during my "leave" to cover the mindees? It has to be a c/m right be left alone with them?

Luna, wow two weeks isn't long. How are you finding it now?

I will be having a c-section so sadly 2 weeks won't be long enough but was considering 6 weeks..

Hi
Congratulations!
I'm 24 weeks now. I had IVF for this baby and told most of the parents we were having it as I needed a few days off.
I currently mind twins of 3 and my son nearly 3. They are going to a friend who is a CM. Baby is due by section around 12th Aug and I'm hoping to come back to do before & after school for sept, a bit mad I know but otherwise I'll loose the schoolies I have, they are good kids and the shcool is spitting distance from the house and hubby is usually home just after they come so i'll have a bit of help.
Not taking on a full timer again straight away tho.

This is a really interesting read as I've just started pre childminding training and was wondering how having mindees affected your own dcs, hadn't really thought far enough ahead to consider how to fit the next one in! DS is only 3months and gorgeous!

crace · 27/04/2007 08:19

I didn't either, frankly. And it wasn't planned exactly to happen this fast after becoming registered. I have just taken on my full time mindee from Feb!

Does anyone know about the possibility of hiring an assistant to help cover my leave so I don't lose my mindees?

nappyaddict · 05/05/2007 18:15

do most people arrange cover for their mindees or let them sort it out themselves?

and do they come back once your working again or do people find they stay with their new cm?

nappyaddict · 05/05/2007 20:44

frankieb, would you be interested in taking on a 15 month old the beginning of october? wouldn't necesarrily be full time. probably for 3-4 hours a day, 4 days a week?

frankieb · 06/05/2007 17:59
