I am SO rubbish at being assertive!!

....no, no, don't worry, I'll give up my day off tomorrow to look after your dc so you can go to your "really important meeting" that you've only just thought about getting cover for......

......no, no, I won't take my holiday that week, of course it'll be too difficult to get cover.......

......oh, don't worry that you haven't paid me, I don't have any bills to pay and the supermarket has a special offer on at the mo, all their food is free! and I love looking after your dc so much that I do it for free!!......

It's been one of those weeks (can you tell?) and it's only Tuesday!!!!!!! I wonder what I have to look forward to tomorrow?

Ooooh, I feel much better now!

I don't think they do-if I ever saw one advertised I would be first in the queue. Like you I find it so hard to say no and quite often will work when I'd really rather not. In fact I used to write on holiday info-which is given out at beginning of year-to let me know if any dates are difficult. I am now leaving that off as all my parents do tell me if anything is difficult!

Got my training directory last week and laughed my head off when I found an assertiveness course for childminders! I will definately be going, am getting better at putting my foot down but am so pleased they are finally doing one!

crace · 18/04/2007 08:03

No, Kay really? I would be well up for one!

Katymac · 18/04/2007 08:06

I need one too

KaySamuels · 18/04/2007 08:39

All I can assume is that everyone has asked the network to organise one. Why not conspire and petition to have one! Mwa ha ha!

Katymac · 18/04/2007 08:42

Yep - but we would need to be assertive to do that

FeelingOld · 18/04/2007 15:43

I attended an assertiveness workshop last year which was done by our NCMA development worker. It was a 2 hour workshop one evening.
Guess what?
It has made absolutely no difference, I am still crap at being assertive

ThePrisoner · 18/04/2007 23:01

I did one years ago. We had to do lots of role play (which I hate) and, when the "parent" said that they couldn't pay that day because they'd forgotten their cheque book, we had to practise how to demand the money anyway. It made no difference whatsoever to how I work!!

mogs0 · 19/04/2007 19:16

I was trying to be being sarcastic!! I didn't realise they actually did classes!!!!! I just wanted to have a moan!

I'm sure going to a class would make no difference to me, I'm a lost cause!! Although, I'm getting slightly better and standing up for myself.

If people drop hints for me to do things for them I can quite easily ignore the hints but if they ask me something directly I struggle to say no!
