Childcare Vouchers

Hi, I applied for the full £243 a month (£55 a week) childcare vouchers to be taken out on my wages from work but received a letter yesterday from my work to say I can only have £179.20 a month, it doesnt explain why I can't have the £243. I've tried looking online to see what this could be but can't find anything. I will call HR tomorrow and ask too but was wondering if anyone on here might be able to shed any light on why this would be in the meantime. Thanks :)

It is likely to be due to the rules around minimum wage. In effect allowing you to take the full amount would reduce your hourly paid rate below the minimum wage.

Gizlotsmum · 20/08/2017 08:45

Agree. They can't let your wage fall below the minimum wage through the vouchers

On the other side higher rate tax payers can't get as much either. Can't remember how much but think around £125?

SallyOMalley · 20/08/2017 08:51

Yes, this happened to me. It'll be because your wage after the vouchers have been taken out fall below the hourly minimum wage.

Ickle - yes, my dh can only claim £124 a month.

Thank you ladies, that's what I thought too but I'm pretty certain my wages still come above minimum wage, £9 something before tax & ni, working it on the £243, I'll recheck though as maybe I've done something wrong. I'm really confused to why
