its up to you
i have lots of children some full time some term time and some holiday care only

for my term time only children under 5 i charge quarter fees to hold their place

for my term time only children over 5 i dont charge

for my holiday only children they just pay for the days they do

I have two term only (very part time mindees) that I don't charge anything for the holidays.. Should I?? I know they won't ever come to me in the holidays, the parents are either off themselves or have alternate care. I thought term time was just that and I was free to accept holiday care if the opportunity presented itself?

(Sorry to hijack)

well i cant offer a place to the term time only children in the hols cause i have holiday children but i charge the quarter fee to hold their place
parents have never said anything

I don't charge retainers, so no help from me - sorry!

jellybellynally · 28/03/2007 00:39

it's the norm here to charge half fee for school holidays

Hi

I am not a childminder but am placing my daughter with one. I also have two primary school age children so I will be taking school holidays off to look after them anyway but my childminder (for my 17 mth old)told me she operated 51 weeks per year so I assumed I just have to pay all year round like day nursery even if she's off with me and the other two so they spend some time together. I have never heard of being able to get a term-time only childcare place. Are they only for teachers?

jellybellynally · 28/03/2007 00:59

(i thought you were going to bed?)

ShoshableEggEater · 28/03/2007 06:23

I open 50 weeks a year, so I cahrge half price retainer for school holidays for over 8's. Just because they dont want to use you dosnt mean that you are not available.

dmo · 28/03/2007 09:34

term time places are not just open to teachers children
where i live there is a high demand for childcare in the hols so if i know a child is term time only thats fab i can offer their place in the hols to somebody else

charmedhay · 28/03/2007 20:52

what i was thinking of doing to try and seem fair is to charge half fee for summer hols and easter and xmas. so they get 6 weeks no fee !!!! what do you think. Just i haven't had a inquiry for hoildays yet so no money in hoildays

I don't want to upset my childminder by asking for term-time when my daugher is just starting as obviously she will lose income if she just charges me a retainer. I will see how it goes and maybe see if she would like it later. She has own school age children so might welcome the peace and quiet and to be able to give them some quality time - though she will have 3 other littlies besides my daughter none of whom I think are term-time. She is just starting out so maybe not in need of a break yet! I am exhausted in the hols looking after my own three so I think childminders must be superhuman!

dmo · 29/03/2007 09:23

i'd love it if i only had term time children

also dont really like to take under 5's in the hols as its great just having the older ones as we can do more

ask your cm if she offers term time only before she gets used to the money
