Looking for an au pair

Where is the best place to look for an au pair?

I live in Herts and have never had help before. I work part time and need help with the children (g8,b6 and b3) and with the house work.

Do people generally look themselves or use an agency?

Nowadays most people use the web. The selection is much wider there I find and having used agencies before, I don't think they're worth the price.

A good website that has literally thousands of aupairs is aupair-world.net although i found that the aupairs are a bit reluctant to commit. My current au-pair comes from great-aupair.com which has less aupairs to choose from but they seem a little bit keener.

The fees are about 30 Euros (as I recall) but to use an agency is about £200 so there's a big difference.

Be prepared to write lots of emails to prospective aupairs, and have some photos of yourselves to send them.

There's an aupairs employers thread which may be worth a read to get the ups and downs of life with an aupair.

Good luck
