I have taken on the Nursery School child for after Nursery School care; For the purpose of my ratios (even though she is 4 and doing 10 sessions per week, will be going into reception in September 07), mindee is counted as an under five, so is included in my under 5's ratios.

Pick up is for three days per week, for 3 hours per session. I have added 25p per hour onto my normal hourly rate & will charge from pick up time not from the time I have to leave the house;

Would I be expected to include an evening meal or should I charge for it? what do you other childminders do? & parents what would your expectations be?

Presumably, if a school child, then I would have had a term time contract only, therefore would have only asked for a retainer of say half fees if place not being used (unless of course, I could fill it with school holiday children)
but
as mindee is taking up a whole afternoon place & I am losing money by charging just for the 3 hours, I have decided to ask for full fees to be paid to keep place open during the holidays (they will actually be away for most of the easter break). Do you think this is reasonable?

The contract is until end of summer term (as they are away for rest of summer on hols & understandably don't want to pay for the place)...

Have used my other name for obvious reasons

well i have just taken a boy on who is 4 and in pre-school and is starting school in sept
parents dont need me after july as school hols etc and he isnt going to the school i pick up from so its a short contract

mum phoned and asked for 2 afternoons any days as she could be flexible so i said mon/tues

i am charging from 9am and i pick him up at 11.30am, i give him a cooked lunch at 12 and a snack at 3.30 and this puts him on until his parents pick him up at 5pm (i dont charge for food)

its up to you how you run your own business this is just my example

as a mum I'd be expecting to pay the 3hrs a day for the 3 days for every week until start of sept, less any holiday time that the cm is having (assuming they don't charge for their holidays). tbh now that i've met many cms I know that I'd be filling a fullday spot so would expect to pay the going rate for at least 1/2 day.

regards dinner - i would expect a snack and drinks inc in fee. wouldn't want dds fed meal as the slowcooker will ring as we walked through the door at home! but if you were cooking for all your mindees at 4.45pm / 5pm, then I'd probably give you money to feed dds too.

Thanks Dmo and Stargate. Just wanted to make sure I am being reasonable in this particluar circumstance.

I offer full day or morning/afternoon sessions to under 5's so did think about charging for the whole afternoon but i'll leave it as it is for now - I don't charge for any time I may have off ...
