I have a friend.....

Currently 25 wks pregnant
Will be a single mum
Doctor (SHO) needs to finish final year of hospital rotation before starting GP training after baby born
Can only afford to have 6 weeks off work after baby born
Will be working day and night shifts
has no family/friends in area who can help with child care
Needs childcarer who is able to be flexible for day and night shifts
Lives in Birmingham

I can't think of an easy solution for her, can anyone else help?

She has exhausted the list of child minders from the council, cannot afford a nanny, nursery hours don't suit shift patterns.

Many thanks for any advice!

Can't think of much... though would check with your friend that they have spoken with the NHS (presuming it's an NHS hospital), as they tend to have Childcare Co-ordinators who know about all local childcare suitable for hospital workers.

People like your friend are exactly why the childcare system in this country needs a good shake up. Is she sure she can't afford a nanny? What about two au pairs? Possibly hospital creche and an au pair?

She has to do something obviously because she obviously HAS to go to work.

Oh, maybe a nannyshare?

Yes could try childcare coordinator. I'm sure there must have been other mums in this position, there must be a solution.

i know many cm's dont do overnight care same as here cos i get calls all the time because i DO provide it?
has she tried chlidcare info service?, or even emergency childcare as she may be able to negotiate something more permanent with someone off there as they Do work nights?
hope she gets something
