Hi I have been reading the discussions on this board for a few weeks now and have decided to join . Just had my pre-registration visit for childminding on Wednesday and everything seemed to go okay, can anyone tell me how long the crb checks etc take to come through and how long after that you get your certificate etc. Cheers

pinkranger · 16/03/2007 12:03

i did my pre briefing in october , 6 weeks course in november, and sat the exam in December, so 5 months roughly

dmo · 16/03/2007 12:04

what exam
when did you get your cerf?

pinkranger · 16/03/2007 12:09

they now make you sit a multipul cohice paper and i thought it was hard ( i passed thank god) , there are 25 questions and you have to get 18 correct.

I got my cert about 2 weeks ago!!!

dmo · 16/03/2007 12:44

Oh god better tell my friend about the exam.
good news on the quickness of getting your cerf

DB1 · 16/03/2007 12:48

i did the course in Oct/Nov and sat the exam in Feb and did the first aid in Dec, still waiting to hear if i've passed the exam but the tutor on the CPI course said it doesn't affect your registration, if you fail you just need to resit it??? I agree pinkranger, it was really hard and the questions are so ambiguious. Can't wait to get stuck in now.

exam
The more I read the more convinced I am that registering in England when i move is a bad idea

pinkranger · 16/03/2007 13:03

DB1 - ithought the questions were wordered really wronge ,and they was one abbout framework , which would have been great if we had done it on the icp!!!!

DB1 · 16/03/2007 13:11

Pinkranger:I could have picked two or three answers from each multiple choice on some questions and on others my choice wasn't even there. Did you have the questions where they give you a scenario and you have to pick the true or false answer from about six versions what a nightmare. considering it was only a 45mins exam it was intense.

OMG - i forgot that, the tru and false ones were a nightmare!! dont know what my overal score was but i bet i got all them wrong!!

i thought 45 mins i would be sitting there for ages at the end but i wasnt, just about finished in times - agree that there were some questions that my answer wasnt there

In my experience, CRB checks can take from 2 weeks, to several months. I've not yet had one which turned-around in less than 14 days.

Once CRB checks are through (you will be sent a copy), you can then contact Ofsted (assuming you are in England) and inquire regarding registration progress. They should be able to tell you if they are awaiting anything. Health Check can sometimes cause a bit of delay. Once everything is through, they will send a letter stating their intention to register you. Think at this point you pay the fee (anyone remember for sure), then 14 days afterwards, you are sent you certificate.

Exam - I learn something new every day!
A question about framework - interesting, seeing that EYFS isn't Statutory Requirement until September 2008 (Some of it is still in consultation stage!)
Talking of EYFS, the current issue of SureStart Magazine contains a booklet about EYFS - have yet to read it.
