Childminder paperwork

Dear Childminders, what do you do with your paperwork, contract and all that, when you changing your line of work. Can I just safely get rid off? Making sure that all the parents/child details are non existant? or do I need to keep it anyway for some time after changing a job or just quiting?

It needs to be kept until the child reaches 21 years and 3 months of age.

No I meant when you are not a childminder any longer when you give up and change your job for something else.

Won't? Why won't you? You must.

I know as a childminder I have a responsibility to keep my paperwork but if I stop why do I still have the same responsibility. I won't be Ofsted registered and not taking care of children and doing somthing else.

I've emailex Ofsted to ask them the same question.

It's in case a child decides to sue or make a claim against you once they reach adulthood. You will have no evidence of any registers or accident forms to defend yourself. It can't take more than a box file or two, why not just keep it?

Thank you all for your info. I've just got an email back from my childminding coordinator for the council and she has said that in the new changes in EYFS we need to only keep our paperwork for 6 yeats.

Wow I have to say that is great news.

That's not true. Financial records are 6 years but the others are as stated above. I wonder if your coordinator has a link to share this information?

Actually I don't know why I'm worrying so much about you. If you want to chuck them, go ahead.

I agree. Your advice is wrong. 7 years for accounts, but until 21 for registers, accident forms etc.
