CM Club: Do you give yourself enough time off when you are ill?

I know I don't and I don't think it helps me in the long run as I feel so drained all the time and catch every bug that goes around.

Got me thinking as should have sat my theory test for driving today and as I couldn't make it I had to get a doctors note to reschedule it. The doctor put a week on it!!

Have had flu symptoms sunday and today, took today off still don't feel much better (slept all day sun ds had to stay at my mum's overnight and dp had to leave work early) but feeling duty bound to work tomoro.

Poor you! I guess it is all about being able to afford the time off. I know I can't.

Cracked a rib 4 weeks ago, now much improved but still painful, was agony for the first couple of weeks, but just had to try carry on as normal. Would probably be much better now if had been able to take time off initially, but didn't see the point when would still have to look after own DS who feels about 2x heavier than mindee.

Ooh you poor thing, that's why I usually soldier my ds is 2 so wouldn't get any rest anyway

I'm not ill, just old ... and have Old Person Joints. I currently have one shoulder and my elbow (on the other arm) strapped up as I have severe muscle/tendon/anything else damage. I am not supposed to be lifting anything!!

It will, apparently, get better with rest ...

Never take time off - like you say, its a money thing. God, that means I haven't had a day off sick in 10 years!!

ayla99 · 06/03/2007 13:24

Its mainly the money thing, but its a no-win situation. If you take the time off you feel guilty for letting the parent down and if you soldier on you feel guilty for fear of risking the health of the mindies.

I've rarely had a day off in my whole life, before childminding everything passed me by except tonsilitis & chicken pox. Since childminding I seem to constantly get coughs, sore throats & headaches. So much for the assumption that cms' develop resistance from being exposed to so much!

i have flu syptoms too was in bed all day sunday but got up for work on monday
for me its the guilt thing if i'm off so are 12-15 parents (depending on the day) so dont really have time off

Rubybees · 06/03/2007 21:28

I've only taken 2 days sick in 3 years. I'm lucky as so far (done it now)not to bad. I did go to the doc. last week as really tired and bad headaches but mum of my 2 under 5's has just had surgery on her back and can't do anything I felt really bad if I had to take time off so didn't go sick (her hubby works all day and dreads antime 'alone' his words not mine hehe).

Yes the money is important BUT we refuse kids because the're ill one day a parent will say 'x isn't staying with you like that and we'll have to back pay! If I used a childinder thats what I would think LOL

LoveMyGirls · 06/03/2007 21:38

Ive had a sore thorat (viral infection apparently) for 3 weeks now, i feel like crap but i'm carrying on and on and on. It's not bad enough for me to be off but not good enough that i feel well either.

SHOSHAlee · 06/03/2007 21:39

I suffer from Lupus, which can be quite debilitating and tiring when I have a flare, but i have only taken 3 days off in the last 6 years, consequently come time off i just seem to sleep!

KaySamuels · 07/03/2007 09:21

Well I ended up taking Monday Tuesday off bu working today, have just slept constantly. I think having to personally let down several families puts me off but had to do it this week! Still feel awful but soldiering on.
