I pay £10 for 2 dc for 1hr 10 mins inc breakfast and drop off.

Wolfiefan · 16/03/2017 23:00

Depends. Are you a registered childminder?

AndKnowItsSeven · 16/03/2017 23:03

I pay £5 for 7.30 to 8.55 including breakfast and school drop off. So £10 sounds about right.

Bloosh · 16/03/2017 23:06

£10 for 3 hours? When I paid a cm it was £5 an hour and that was normal hours not a 6am start.

I'd go at least £15-20

user1469751309 · 16/03/2017 23:07

Id say £15-20 as well

AndKnowItsSeven · 16/03/2017 23:08

Yes I pay £5 for an hour an a half plusbrealfast and school drop off.

AndKnowItsSeven · 16/03/2017 23:08

*plus breakfast.

AndKnowItsSeven · 16/03/2017 23:09

I am using a nursery not a childminder.

RumAppleGinger · 16/03/2017 23:13

My childminders hours start at 8am. For anything before that I would expect to pay a premium. 6am is bloody early especially when you consider they may not be finishing until 6/7/8pm.

Lindy2 · 16/03/2017 23:16

I'm a registered childminder in Surrey. My hourly rate us £6 per hour. I charge time and a half before 8am. I would therefore charge £24.

What you charge is going to depend on lots of factors. Are you an Ofsted registered childminder with insurance, qualifications, first aid training etc? Where are you based?
Also, before you take this on, how many days a week is this? Bring ready for a child to arrive at 6am every day of the week will be very different from doing it one or two days a week. I've done early starts like this and they are not fun at all, particularly in winter. Also, is it term time only or will you be up and ready to start at 6am in the school holidays too?

nannynick · 16/03/2017 23:58

6am is early. I have done temp work starting at that time in the past, would expect 12 gross per hour (as a nanny providing care in your home) these days but I probably would not do it at all as may be hard to find other work to fit with it.

Are you looking for a childminder? Thinking of being a childminder or are a childminder?

BackforGood · 17/03/2017 00:08

I would expect to pay normal hourly rate from 8am, but I would expect a premium for needing to drop off at 6am Shock

So, depends what your normal hourly rate is, but I'd expect it to be time and a half for those unsocial hours.

I would look to offer this service term time only, with a view to offering a holiday club with similar drop off timings where needed ??????

Careful you don't burn out too soon, that's long hours you're proposing.

Doglikeafox · 17/03/2017 11:55

If i didn't have other children at the same time, I would charge £20 for the very early drop off. I charge £10 for 7:30-8:45 with breakfast and drop off

thisgirlrides · 17/03/2017 13:02

Having done very early starts in the past I wouldn't do it as I found the impact on my own family was too great for the minimal income generated by having just 1 child - possibly different if it's a sibling group or multiple enquiries for early starts and your own family are early risers. I charge £7.50 for 8-drop-off or £10 from 7:30am.

thisgirlrides · 17/03/2017 13:05

ETA if I were to do it, I'd also charge £20 until normal start of 7:30 then standard rate £10 so total £30. It's got to be worth the inconvenience imo

Maryann1975 · 17/03/2017 21:30

I am a cm and charge £4ph for before/after school, but for those hours it would be more. I think I would be asking for £20 (maybe more) a session, but I wouldn't really want to do it anyway. It's hard enough to start work at 8, (I hate getting out of bed), let alone two hours earlier. Don't underestimate how exhausting childcare is.
