Childcare new year increase

I'm curious how much parents have seen their providers increase fees/childcare providers have increased fees for the new year, either as absolute numbers, or a percentage increase?

We recently had a large increase, which we cant afford as our pay is remaining static (a pay cut in real terms).

I agree mimi it's far too much.

We have decided to move her to the local nursery, as we just cannot afford to keep her where she is. It's sad as we wouldn't have contemplated moving her if it wasn't for the large raise in fees.

I did talk to our childminder about the raise, how we couldn't afford it, and that other local provision is much cheaper, but there was no negotiation room.

she either wants rid of your children or has people lined up who are willing to pay more and she only has space for them by getting rid of you.

DC is very easy going, everyone including her, has said so.

No one willing to pay more, certainly not in this area. She has increased fees across the board though, which makes it feel less personal.

I'm sad though that I have generated a lot of custom for her through word of mouth (cm knows this), and I feel like this has come back to sting me a little, as now she feels like she has enough custom to ramp up the fees like this.

Have you asked your cm if she's willing to offer the free funding?

Rattusn · 10/01/2017 10:46

born I haven't as since we are moving dc it is a mute point now. Since the free funding is significantly below her fees, I doubt she would accept it.

It's appalling that.
I've heard so many nurseries and childminders complaining about it! I doubt the government thought it through when they bandied it about pre-election.

The nurseries and childminders for whom it is significantly below their fees are likely to complain. For many provisions around here they are in line/more then their usual fees though.

I suspect many providers will either build the lower fees into their fee structure (ie charge more for the remaining hours that are taken) or will not accept the funded hours.

The local nursery dd will be going to is excellent and does accept the funded hours, which are slightly higher than their usual hourly rate.
