C/M's: They definitely become part of the family don't they?

Granted I am new at this, but I have a mindee that was meant to be p/t am only but due to circumstances she's come 11 hours p/d for a couple weeks. She's a lovely baby, so don't mind at all - but it's amazing that she's just become part of the family.

She gets here before my own dc's get up so they all have breakfast and then she joins the school run for my ds, and then it's play play play, school run again, play play play, dinner time, bath with my dd (she's here until 6-7) and I dress her for bed.

It's like I have another little one! She is lovely, so am really lucky and gets along with my dd. Her mum seems quite pleased too - It is exhausting though!

I know how you feel, I've just found out I will be losing one of my family, 7yr old mindee...I am so gonna miss her, she is exhausting and here everyday but the place just won't be the same without her. I have loved minding her.

looneytune · 15/02/2007 09:48

Yes they do! I've got an 18 month old who I've had for a year and she's here 6.45-6.30, arrives straight from bed so to speak so i change nappy, dress her etc. but i don't get her ready for bed. I sort my ds out once she leaves (although if they were contracted til 7pm I'd say I want to sort my own ds out from 6.30 otherwise the cleaning would never get done!!!)

How old is she? I'm looking after tiny prem baby at the moment (started when 5 weeks old) and she's sooooooooooo cute. Makes me so broody!!

looneytune · 15/02/2007 09:52

Know how you feel KS, my first ever mindee who started over a year and half ago is leaving me today. She can be hard work and causes lots of problems with ds but also they are best mates (only a month apart in age). She's here Mon-Fri for nearly 11 hours and my ds misses her at weekends so he's going to be totally lost without her

Off to make a cuppa and cry boo hoo.

The LO is only 10 months, and I do dress her/change in the morning too. I bathe her as she is so young, she usually drops off to sleep on the way home and they pop her into bed. If she is here to 7 it can be a bit of a misery as she is sooo tired, bless her but normally here until 6, 6.30.

I barely tidy up, just from dinner - I have to get up early and do, am so exhausted!

Doesn't help that my own 14 month old still doesn't sleep through, and is cutting 4 teeth at the moment with the usual runny nappies and cold! There is running noses EVERYWHERE.. ick

Oh no, just saw that you are losing one today - how sad. It must be hard after that amount of time, especially since they do fit into the family life so easily.

I am beginning to treat her like one of my own, I can't imagine losing her now, much less in a year!

Tell me about runny noses!!!!

Yes, very sad to be loosing this one today, we're all going to miss her very much! She'll still visit/have sleepover etc. but it's not quite the same!

AND..........it's my birthday so I should be feeling and not

~~~~~~~~~HAPPY BIRTHDAY~~~~~*~
crace · 15/02/2007 19:11
Happy Birthday!!! Hope you had an ok day, considering...
Well, the dad picked up and he apologised sincerely for being 5 minutes late - yes, definitely want parents like these. I think they might extend her hours again next week again. Just pleased they like me well enough to feel comfortable.
Hoorah!
I had a temp mindee for 3 months from when she was 9 months. She's so lovely and I was really sad when she finished but they live just round the corner so still see them often. She's coming to stay for a week next month, I can't wait!!
I know how you feel about them becoming part of the family. I haven't looked after a baby for such long hours since I was nannying before I had my ds. I used to get really attached and struggled terribly when I left my nanny job to have my ds. I was there nearly 4 years and felt awful when I left (might have had something to do with my hormones!!).
ssd · 16/02/2007 09:41
I look afetr a little girl of 2 and ds1 who's nearly 9 adores her! he loves it when she's here. recently she was unwell and I had her on my knee, but she jumped off it to sit on ds1's knee! He was dead chuffed!
looneytune · 16/02/2007 11:50
Thanks SS and Crace, birthday was full of tears, I tried but couldn't stop when she was cuddling me so tight I couldn't breathe! Some mates cooked me dinner and had champagne so cheered up later but the day was so Had great all day party though!
StrawberrySnowflakes · 16/02/2007 13:22
glad it turned out nice, but at little one
mumlove · 16/02/2007 13:26
Belated birthday wishes looneytune
looneytune · 16/02/2007 14:35
Cheers
At least I'm seeing mindee tomorrow for her birthday party and she'll be coming over for sleepover soon. Just not the same
On the other hand, I'm going to moan now. I've always got on very well with this family, they once said I was like family which was nice but not a birthday card, goodbye card, NOTHING Mindee made me something as a goodbye present whilst she was here which was nice but why are some parents so ungrateful? I've bent over backwards for this family, been too soft to charge late collection fees even though they were constantly turning up at 7pm instead of 6.30pm etc.
MOAN OVER, thanks for listening!
crace · 16/02/2007 14:44
That is appalling actually - especially as you will be seeing each other still!
Well, Happy Birthday anyway - your champers and dinner sounds fab!
