CM CLUB - Anyone do babysitting?

Just had enquiry from someone who saw my website and wondered if I'd be willing to consider babysitting say once a month.

I said I would normally say no but I'm willing to consider it. She told me to have a think about what pay I'd want IF I did it.

So, I'm having a think and going to speak to dh but trying to think of a fair rate and also whether or not I want a minimum number of hours to make it worth my while going out on a Friday/Saturday night to do this.

I'm in the South East. What do you reckon?

Thanks

Hi Looneytune- where in the SE are you? (I am in Kent)

I would definitely do babysitting, but would charge £5 per hour. Prefer to do it in my own home, but suppose that isn't babysitting then

I've advertised as being available though, at £5 which I thought was fair..

I'm in the South East (Berkshire Surrey border) and charge £10 per hour - that's per family, not per child.

As an experienced childcare professional, with comprehensive background checks, you can command a premium wage for evening babysitting. I would suggest a minimum of 3 hours, perhaps more, and also have a clause in any agreement with them that if they book and then cancel within a certain time period - they still have to pay.

Hi everyone

I'm in Reading, Berkshire. When I was 19 (over 10 years ago) I got paid £5 an hour for babysitting. To be honest, I don't really want to do it so the money would have to be good enough to get me off the sofa on a Fri/Sat night! Don't think she's be able to afford £10 an hour though. Maybe £7.50 an hour?

She has 2 children, one with Aspergers but shouldn't be a problem. To be honest, the kids should be in bed when I get there so I wouldn't really have to do anything as such unless they woke up.

my overnight rate is £5.50 so id prob stick to that for one child!

I babysit at other peoples houses (and Im a reg childminder during the day).

I charge £6 per hour minimum of £25

I would suggest that once you have decided upon what to charge and the parent(s) agrees, then you arrange to meet the children. Children with Aspergers may or may not sleep much! I know I don't sleep much, and I never slept much as a child either. Also, the child may not want to be left with you - as with all children they can be a bit fussy about who they respond to and who they don't.

I'm a nanny and charge £7 an hour for the family i work for but would charge £8 an hour for another family. I live in West London.
