Nanny nick has done the "big sums"...so we need to earn £72k to to take home the same as my nanny - lets not get into disposable income...4 kids/mortgage etc...vs living at homewith parents ..ho ..hum..

thats why im moving

nailpolish · 14/02/2007 12:33

yes i agreee cloudhopper that at least with a house you have something to show for it

Cloudhopper · 14/02/2007 12:33

Now, where's that idiot husband of mine so I can restart the campaign to move north?

Bozza · 14/02/2007 12:33

No we don't live in such a fancy house either fio. It is not worth £300K.

crap really, eh?

expatinscotland · 14/02/2007 12:34

Yes, like a heart attack, high blood pressure and relationships broken apart by the stress of commuting.

And a mega overdraft b/c your commuting costs are so high.

nailpolish · 14/02/2007 12:34

we dont have a car at all

to me a car is a luxury

We can't move because DH and I commute in different directions. I would love to get a different job that was nearer to home, but because of wanting part time hours it is very difficult. The future of my current job is not very secure either.

expatinscotland · 14/02/2007 12:35

We have a P reg Vauxhall Astra diesel. Inherited from the ILs. DH's work is not serviced by a bus, too far to walk, and he gets off at 11PM most nights.

Cloudhopper · 14/02/2007 12:35

Fiofio, you have cheered me up immensely with the mental image of a diesel powered Clit

nailpolish · 14/02/2007 12:35

actually you could get that for 200K in Edinburgh dep on area

expatinscotland · 14/02/2007 12:36

Yes, Bozza, that was DH's problem as well. He needed evenings only b/c of childcare.

expatinscotland · 14/02/2007 12:36

Yes, areas with poor schools, for example.

nailpolish · 14/02/2007 12:37

yes expat

i have told dh i would rather live in a flat wiht good schools than a nicer house with bad schools

Aloha · 14/02/2007 12:37

We definitely couldn't afford anything like our house if we hadn't owned a house for quite a long while.

Bozza · 14/02/2007 12:37

fio was a renault clit a deliberate typo ? DH has a diesel (company car - their rules) and it is lovely. I have a petrol Fiesta - sums didn't make it worth paying the extra for a diesel at the time but I will look into it next time.

nailpolish · 14/02/2007 12:37

but i must have a garden

thats all im bothered about

i owuld even go from 3 bed to 2 bed

expatinscotland · 14/02/2007 12:38

a wise choice, naily.

that flat will still set you back at least £200K, however, and probably more in the region of £220K-£250K for good performing schools. For top schools like Boroughmuir, expect to pay £300K+ for a family-sized flat in those catchments.

its not as bad as that expat

Bozza · 14/02/2007 12:39

Aloha we are in that position too. We have a mortgage for about 90K on a house that is worth £250K. We couldn't afford to nearly triple our mortgage payments.
