Live in Nanny Wages

Hi all,
We are looking to hire a full time live-in nanny for the first time, and I'd like to gauge a rough wage expectation? Gross cost please.
The nanny will have their own furnished bedroom with sky tv and wifi, a private en suite shower room.
We have 3 children, ages 8,2,1. Working hours roughly 7am-5.30pm which I think seem reasonable? Eldest at school full time, middle child at preschool 8-1 every day, baby at home all day.
Thanks in advance

www.gov.uk/holiday-entitlement-rights

Nannies get the same employment rights as any other worker. Live-in nannies rights are a bit different in regards to National Minimum Wage.

The fuck?! Has the UK changed in the last few years or is my brain just going?

JoJoSM2 · 23/10/2016 16:34

BummyMummy - the holiday entitlement has been like that for years and years. Perhaps you're referring to the fact that nannies will generally get Bank hols off, and then the employer chooses 2 weeks off for you and you get to choose 2 as well?

BummyMummy77 · 23/10/2016 16:53

I must just be confused then. Grin

And in the states I think 10 days is the standard holiday so maybe got used to that.

JoJoSM2 · 23/10/2016 17:03

Are you part time? That would make sense. If you're full time, you should get bank hols + 4weeks (some chosen by the employer, some by you) as minimum.

LightTripper · 25/10/2016 10:12

5.6 weeks is the legal minimum I think Bummy? Don't forget that includes Bank Holidays - so it's Bank Holidays plus 4 weeks paid leave on dates chosen by parents/nanny (in our case we do 2 weeks nominated by us, 2 by our nanny, and we also give the time between Christmas and New Year as pre-agreed paid time off in addition to that).

Sorry, missed page 2 Blush
I'm blaming baby brain.

Holiday entitlement in the US is certainly less, would need to refer to local labour law for if there was any legal minimum amount, or if it was just a suggested minimum.

UK has legislation that applies, thus the 5.6 week calculation for Statutory Holiday Entitlement. Employers can offer more but not less.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all your messages Smile
We've decided to go for a live-out Nanny. We'd like to keep our guest bedroom spare and think perhaps we value our privacy a little too much to welcome another adult into our home if that makes sense? As a PP said, it actually doesn't make too much difference financially once all costs are added up, and that really was our only motivating factor.
Im going to have a browse on Nanny Job tonight, thanks to whoever recommended that
