Im just making sure I enter everything I can possibly think of to expenses (legally of course) Can anyone think of any expenses I may have forgotten e.g. the ambiguous ones? Also what do you tend to spend on food per week. I childmind for 30 hours a week. im not sure if Im spending too much or too little?

i spend about £50 per week
i have 8 children for breakfast and they eat a box of cereal each a week so thats 8 x £2 = £16
i then have lunch to perpare
after school i have 10 children and they all have fruit, crisps, yogurt, biscuits every night and i also make tea for 5 children
[hmmm] think i should put shopping bill up

i take it you have done all the normal stuff gas/ eletric etc?
i add new toys, days out, toddler groups, childrens birthdays/christmas presents, buggys, cosy toes, a new shed,
dont think i can claim for my decking....

Can you claim for laminate flooring? I'm getting this done at some point purely due to childminding. Also, if I did a lot of mileage looking for my 7 seater (which I picked up at the weekend ), can I claim that as the 7 seater is only required for childminding (only have 1 child myself).

Here's some I can think of:

Stationary
Printer cartridges
Obviously all your mileage for school runs, going shopping etc
Car Seats
Any bedding, blankets etc. you may have needed to buy
Broadband
Sky TV
Council Tax
Rent
Gas
Electric
Water
Advertising
Training Courses (if had to pay)

With regards to the car you can not claim the full cost of a car but you can claim capital allowance each year. I did work it all out myself one year (the formula is in with the s/a stuff but the accountant does it now.

Not sure if this is a bit cheeky- bbbuuuuttt.....

Can I claim for a percentage of a new kitchen?

Mine is manky, and v. difficult to keep clean, not particularly safe (Cupboards keep popping open, etc..), so health & safety wise, would I be allowed to?

ayla99 · 06/02/2007 22:30

Don't think so. Just having new kitchen myself so would be nice. But if your kitchen is as mank as my old one you'd need to change it if you weren't childminding. I've claimed for specific items - colour coded chopping boards, towel holders; that type of thing that I can argue I need to meet Environmental Health standards or specifically for mindies meals such as freezer containers etc.

Because we get an allowance for wear & tear we can't claim for fixtures/furniture. If you start claiming for changing your property specifically for your business you can be liable for business rates as well as complicating your tax return and complications if you later sell the property. Far too complicated for me.

Ah well, was worth a shot!!!lol!!! Thanx for the advice!!

looneytune · 07/02/2007 09:38

Cheers for that.

In relation to the car, I just meant the mileage used up in my search for a 7 seater, like when you claim mileage for shopping because buying things for mindees.
