What do you pay a teen babysitter?

We're new to the area, new to the country, so I really have't a clue as to what is appropriate. Children are 4 and 6, babysitter will be here about 2.5 hours, putting them to bed midway.

About £6 an hour around here.

Hasn't the baby sitter told you? DD babysits for £8/hr but has a childcare qualification and first aid certificate.

Neighbours 16yr old daughter gets paid £5 per hour from us, but my dd (3) is in bed asleep by then and most unlikely to wake up.

Our local 16 year old was £4 an hour when she started, which was the rate she asked for, but at that stage DD was in bed and never woke up so she was literally just sitting in the house.

Now she puts DD to bed we've upped it to £5 a hour.

Where do you live? And how old are they?
I had a sliding scale and starting paying £3.50/£4 (as they asked) for 15/16 yr olds, £4.50ph in sixth form and £5 from 18th birthday. I think I need to up my rates though, as they were set about six years ago.

My kids are a very easy babysit though and we have good wifi ;).

This should be set by the babysitter, I'd say. I always ask the babysitter how much they charge. In my area they tend to be about £5 p/h

Hi, I asked her how much and she said whatever I thought was appropriate.
We are in ealing, if that matters. Based on what I read here maybe we'll go with 6£ per hour.

£5 an hour but my eldest dd babysits for free so we don't often need to use one.

I think being in London does matter PITA5000. Rates were higher! I'm not in London/SE but it's still quite pricey round here.
