I'm due at the beginning of May '07 and have Multiple Sclerosis (not bad at all - you wouldn't guess but relapse rate doubles immediately after birth so need to rest) Want a maternity nurse for about six weeks to help out - any advice on this - can anyone recommend...?

Hi, I am on the Islington/Hackney border. Am NNEB qualified, 11 years experience, a registered childminder and mother.

Are you looking for 24 hour care or is there more flexibility?

I would be really interested if so

BBear,

Have a look on the Classifieds under Childcare. There is a maternity nurse student with bags of experience looking to volunteer (she's based in London) and is looking for newborns or soon to be mothers.

Her thread is about 14 down headed "Volunteer Maternity nurse needs to gain experience..." and her chat name is newborncare4you.

If you need to contact her , the e-mail address is [email protected].

HTH!

Chel

Thank you so much for the messages - I need 24 hour care for the first few weeks then I'm flexible - see how it goes... will look under classifieds but as I have no idea what to do with my little bundle of joy I think I need someone with some experience to start with - THANKS...

BB... do you want to email me anyway and then I can do some asking about for you. Don't worry, I won't be pushing my services on you.

I've had 5 babies in London,( now living abroad and expecting no6 !!), and have always got really excellent mat nurses from ' Maternally Yours ' ....v.friendly and efficient.

BBear · 08/02/2007 19:32

Thanks for the maternally yours tip. Have tried Eden - it's just agencies are SO expensive then you have to add agency fees - or is it worth it for the peace of mind and fact if it doesn't work out they'll find someone else. MarsLady - trying to email but says address is wrong.....

I know what you mean re;agency fees ,but I do think they offer peace of mind......and in one case,( with no3 I think...so I had a just one year old and 2 year old already ), they provided a 'replacement' whilst I was in hospital as the first nurse had to bow out ot the last minute when her dad died unexpectedly. I kept the mat nurse for 4 weeks for number 1, and for 3 weeks each for 2 and 3, and for the twins I had the same one as for the previous baby and she stayed for 6 weeks. If I hadn't had the agency fee I probably would have kept them an extra week or two,but the ones I've had have been v.good and got the baby,( or babies ! ),' ready' to be handed over to the nanny by the time their stay with us was up.
