mindee 1's mum text me when she should have been here to say shed be dropping of haf hour alter..ok..ran round all morn, but fine....she was dropping right at time we leave to take my dd to school, shes aware what time we have to leave...ten minutes after this time, she still wasnt here, so text to say we'd be walking along main road as we were going to be late and hopefully shed see us, no answer saying where they were or anything, so assume on way..........got to school ten to nine and they tunrn up just after, looking not particulary happy!...her dd was crying for her as she was leaving and everything was up in air!

then...

Mindee 2's mum rang to say mindee2's sister who i had yesterday as she had ear infection and was off school was still poorly and had asked to go to her nanas, so mum was taking both of them there instead as she dint want to put on me or take advantage!, i wouldnt have minded one bit as sister is a wonderful little girl and was fine here yesterday, but now although mindee 1 is not coming today, mum asked me to put sisters feee on mondays bill..now if i wasnt friends with the mum i wouldnt think twice, but feel a bit as mindee 2 is not with me today, sort of cancelling yesterday out???

hmmm..so have to tactfully speak to mindee 1's mum and explain why we had to leave yesterday and how important it is she should be here on time...then decide wether im running a business or a charity for mindee 2's mum

no

you charge her for the day she's missing due to child's illness

the only time a childminder doesn't charge if SHE is unavailable for work

its not your fault the child is sick

so you charge 2 x fees for the day you had mindee 2 and her sister, and 1 x fee for the day mindee 2 doesn't turn up

StrawberrySnowflakes · 26/01/2007 09:53

i know, thats what i 'should' do and i prob will but feel a bit rotton...must get my hard nosed business head on!

Strawberry - I am with you. I am so useless at being good about money. I won't even tell you what I didn't do when a mum just stopped coming full stop.

You have to be hard about this though, otherwise it will just be something else won't it? I just hate this part of it.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 26/01/2007 10:38

yeah, i know, its just a while ago similar thing happend, mindee 2 was off 3 days then her sis came with her for 2..didnt end up charging then..but when sis came another time i did charge..its just the fact im not looking after either today im a bit , BUT i do say full fee for any sickness or absence...sooo..better practice what i preach!

the only time i dont charge is if i am not available for work,if mindees were at a nusrsery they would still pay if sick or gone to grannys for the day!

i will charge her, just really good freind but she was the only one whom at the start said treat me as if im not your friend!

well im mindee free for this afternoon!..jus asked for lunch as wasnt hungry earlier and give her exactly what she wanted(no, oh no we have to set a good example to mindees!) she's got warmed bagel with cream cheese, cubed bits of cheddar and spicy german sausage...her choice and she loves it!..am off now to tackle bathroom which hasnt had so much as a once over(cept loo)in oh about three weeks!!!..then hoovering whole house and ironing bed linen which i washed before mindee came thismorn..plus going for girly night 'in' tonight, so have to make myself look less of 'just been caught in rain poodle head' and more 'yes i am succesfully managing my own business extremely well without breaking step!'

how does this work then...
my ds not been feeling great so had him home so rung mindee mum whos 38wks pregnant just to say about son and he could still come as son had nothing catching but just incase she'd rather not...she said understandably rather not see u next week, then to receive full pay in post this morning when I wasnt expecting it...what would u do...say no u shouldnt have paid me or just except it??

crace · 26/01/2007 15:58

I would return it myself - otherwise I wouldn't feel right about it, plus if she ever questioned it?

I had a mum overpay me this week - only by £7 but I returned it because I would have felt badly. And I was kind of hoping that it might put me in her good books as they were were ad-hoc hours and I would rather have more hours in future!

StrawberrySnowflakes · 26/01/2007 18:58

if your policy states that in event of your family illness you are still able to and prepared to work, then it is right that she paid you.very nice honest fair lady IMO.
you did ring to say you were still fine to work and she declind, in effect, keeping her LO off when you were available.

Ah, yes -rereading that I agree with Strawberry. You did give her the choice and prepared to work.

Keep it.

mykidzrmyworld · 26/01/2007 20:42

that sounds good to me - but i wanted to do the right thing and see what u thought! Thanks for that
