Hello , was wondering weather anyone could shead some light on what they will be looking for tomorrow. I have completed all my icp course and this will be my registration visit. The lady did say that she didnt expect me to have my policys done as im not minding yet but really nervous all the same!

Any advice would be greatfully recived!

Thank you

PS _ My ds is 4.3 should i try and get someone to look after him as he can be very demanding at times to say the least??

you know your own child

just be aware of what you have to do and menion this to the inspecter ie i am aware i have to complete first aid course/policys

also are all you saftey things up? gates, fire blanket, fire guard, first aid box etc

she will be looking in all the rooms you wish to use for work so remove all hazords ie razors, sprays, blech, etc

have you any toys to show the inspector are they at the childs reach (they like this)

just look around the house and child friendly it (put your junk in a room you dont want to use )

thank you!

I have put locks on cuboards, havenot gate any stair gates up as i will tell her i will do this as soon as i start minding - have some of DS toys downstairs but will bring down more

Have orderd my first aid box and my fire blanket come with my NCMA reg - but kon where they are going in my kitchen so i can show her this

thats fine as long as they are ordered or you are aware you need them that will be good
thay normally come again to see you 3 mths after you get your cert if you are minding and they will see you in pratice

I made a list of things I needed to do for each room eg
Lounge - fit stair gate, fit cupboard lock on tv unit door, never use fire when minding, keep door leading to hallway closed at all times etc
I told the inspector about some of the things I intended to do and she said I was obviously very aware of what needed doing and organised, she just scanned my list and was ok about everything.
Also on my list was things like - when I know the age/abilities of children I will be minding I will buy more toys/equipment needed eg double buggy, car seats, baby toys.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

At one of my inspections the only child present was my own ds who decided to play up, constantly attention seeking. I was worried this would impact badly on the inspector's verdict but it was quite the reverse - she said it was clear I was very patient and able to deal calmly with (can't remember the phrase she used - boisterous/demanding/difficult sums it up)! Definately advise you not to be childless when she arrives.

more policies here My Policies if you'd like to compare.

At my last inspection, the inspector said that she didn't need to know my Behaviour Management Policy as she had watched me put it into action all afternoon! I'd had three toddlers who acted as if I'd fed them all on neat tartrazine.

thnak you for all your help and advice.

She came on tuesday and was really nice, asked me some questions on hygine and play etc that i wasnt expecting but i did fine and did my paper work and then she was gone , said that is is happy to register me - she didnt even look upstairs!

Now i just have to wait.......

While im waiting i have a mum coming round next tuesday afternoon as she would like me to look after her 6 year old daughter a couple of days a week after school, really nervous about this as a) will be first job b) have no "girls stuff "

i am great with my niceces as i know what they like and they love coming here to play with the "boys toy" - is there any adivce or hints and tips any of you can give me! xx thank you

having this debate with ofsted at mo, i had my inspection two weeks ago and she didnt move from the dining chair
i know my pratice is good but this is how bad cm get in i think ofsted should do their job properly

dmo · 25/01/2007 13:47

not saying your a bad cm pinkranger i just think they should have looked around

pinkranger · 25/01/2007 13:59

totaly agree with you , i did want her to see our bathroom ( that we have changed the handle so if locked from the inside we can get in) my DS room which has hundreds of toys and book and puzzles everywhere and the small bedroom which will be where they sleep. I was shocked that she didnt have a look around, i could have been hiding anything up there!!!

Have you called Ofsted to see where they are in the process? They were usually really good with me on that.

pinkranger · 12/02/2007 13:47

I've always had great communication with them, and it never hurts to ask. I was told that it could be a minimum of 6 weeks. Hopefully not!
