im due to stop child minding end of may and begin nanny job in june I know this isn't a forum for nannies but would love if one of you kind people could help with a quick question..

I have signed and returned my contract which was all fine and partner checked it too but its just dawned on me this morn that there was nothing in it regarding maternity.. should there be or am I being abit dim?! I am in no way planning a baby imminently but would like to think it will hopefully happen if we are lucky enough in the next year/18m .. was wondering if there should be a clause in there about maternity pay, leave etc. or if when it came to it we would just discuss as I am employed by them so all would have to be above board or inline with statutory gov rights etc.. thanks in advance! x

This has made me chuckle. Op no one was rude to you. Your question got answered and other posters made reference to things that you might not have thought of/might find useful.
For what it's worth, when my nanny employer found out I was pg, my position was made redundant and I wasn't entitled to anything. They didn't break the law, there was just no longer a position for me to do (they went to a childminder), so I was out of a job by 20 weeks pg and didn't get any kind of maternity benefit from them. I did get maternity allowance from the state though, but that was quite a lot less than my old earnings.

You sound hormonal, you sure you're not already pregnant!

MarthaCliffYouCunt · 28/04/2016 15:32

Wow do you really work with children? You seem very short tempered.

Eminado · 28/04/2016 15:37

Gosh OP
I think you should apologise to all the posters who have kindly helped you; it is you who has been rude Shock.

You have a quick temper!

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/04/2016 16:31

Not stupid as employers need to abide by rules for smp so no need to worry it's not in contract if all done legally via gross salary and tax and ni

But def rude as in your replies

Karoleann reply was not rude - she was merely stating facts

That to me is helpful and tbh her reply would have been the same as mine

There are many of us nannies on this board and usually we like to be helpful and advise posters and even more they appreciate the free advise

ViewingEnded - did you mean to be so rude Grin Grin Grin

nbee84 · 28/04/2016 17:22

It just goes to show how easy it is for the written word to be misread. You'd have thought she might have apologised though Grin

OP nobody was being rude, matter of fact and helpful yes, but not rude. I'm pregnant and my employer wouldn't want me to come back with my child, if I asked an own-child-related question on here and people reminded me of that I'd be appreciative as it's something you have to consider now rather than later. As is the car, even if you aren't using a car now the circumstances of your employer could change and they may want you to use a car later on, therefore it's another thing that needs thought.

There are lots of nannies on this board because we are home-based childcarers, as the name of the board states...

Karoleann · 28/04/2016 21:58

Smile I do try and be helpful on this board, or there's no point posting!

Oh. My. Word. I've never seen a thread about a nanny contract
turn into a rather one sided bunfight.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 04/05/2016 22:31

Not an nanny or a nanny employer but this is funny shit Grin.
