OK I love the pregnant nanny! Any interview tips?

I had a great telephone interview with the pregnant nanny I'm considering for my temp job (6 weeks). I thought we clicked and really hope it will work out.

So any top tips for weeding out any nasties I should know about? She is NNEB qualified, her last CRB check was last May, she has an uptodate St John's Amb first aid cert and is bringing all that plus references, and details of people I can call for references. I know why she left her last role, why she's only looking for temp work etc

I need to check with ACAS re mat benefits so I don't need more advice on that score.

But any other guidance on what to ask her would be hugely appreciated!

PLEASE let her be 'the one'.....x

You need Uwila's famous nanny interview questionaire.

Think it's here

It's halfway up the thread.

I would suggest having your son present for the interview... so you see how she interacts with him and how he responds to her.

Ask how she will entertain your son, activities she likes doing, things she doesn't like much. Does she like the outdoors for example, as with new baby you may like DS to spend some time outdoors in suitable weather, so you and baby have some quiet time.

Is she prepared to muck in as and where needed, especially during the first few weeks following babies birth? You don't know what you will and will not be able to do following birth, so having someone who will muck in and help will be good, rather than someone who sticks purely to things listed on a job description.

Oooh, I didn't know there was a list - brilliant I will have a look.

Nick, yes I have her coming post DS lunch so I can see how they get along, whether she throws herself in to playing with him etc.

It's a good point about her level of willingness to do a few off piste bits and pieces in the very early days. I've told her no cleaning/housework involved, but thinking about it I will need someone to put washing in and out of the washing machine and tumble dryer as I won't be able to bend down. Not a nanny job I know, but worth asking if she would do that in addition to washing/ironing the children's clothes. She seems very relaxed so I would doubt she would mind, not least because she seems very pleased to be considered for the job as she's pregnant.

I will take a look at the list. I heart mumsnet....
