Dd says childminder's son took the kid to school

She says its happened twice and at 5years old is very adamant. He is 13. There is a fairly busy road to cross, now he seems a sensible lad ut I'm a bit.......speechless to be honest. I asked dd if cm saw them over the road and dd said not. She also says the 13yo didn't hold her hand over the road and also told me that he didn't stop and look both ways properly.

Think I will be saying something tomorrow when I see her.

id ring her now so you dont discuss it in front of your dd.
So was it your dd he walked to school?..shocking!, i sometimes let dd amuse mindees in her playroom, but thats when im shoved out cos they are playing doctors and dentists or princess and they dont want me cramping their style but..!your not paying her son !
its not that hes 13, its that you pay her, her who is qualified and has strict guidlines to adhear too, to look after your child, her insurance and everything would be invalid if anything had happend!..why would she take that risk with someone elses child???

S88AHG · 04/01/2007 19:05

I would say something for sure, if this is the case, there is the safety issue but also the CM HAS to take children to school, otherwise she can lose her registration. I am a CM and worry about leaving kids in front room while I go outside to feed guinea pigs!!! which are only outside the back door, I would be worried all day if I didnt take mindees to school!!!! Maybe I am paranoid!!!!

StrawberrySnowflakes · 04/01/2007 19:07

no, your normal and responsable like most of us, but this woman!..to think i was worried about getting registered whenthere are people like this sailing through!

tara4now · 04/01/2007 19:11

i would never ever let someone else take my mindees to school. even another adult. im their childminder, and im the one who gets paid to look after them. also, im the one who is insured. i worry about just leaving the kids alone for a minute while i nip to the loo even!! definately mention it tomorrow.

littleducks · 04/01/2007 19:15

At thirteen he may well be responsible enough to look after a five year old, he may even be a great babysitter. However you pay his mother to look after your child and thats who should be walking her to school, there is no way this is acceptable. I would talk to her and find out all the details and her explanation.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 04/01/2007 19:19

she should def at least told you when you collected your dd today, if not then shes hiding it and it will happen again

rhubarbcat · 04/01/2007 20:32

Yes Strwaberry - he walked my dd and the other kids (about 3 of them) to school.

I think its bad, even if she was ill, or something still not acceptable. Its things like this that give us CM s a bad name, not that I am saying you shouldnt have posted by any means you were right to seek advice, best of luck

Cwmbranchildminder · 04/01/2007 22:06

It she is that irresposible regarding that then she is not fit to be a CM and I would remove my child no question.
SHE SHOULD BE REPORTED....im so shocked.
I know your child is only 5 but as a mother u know when your child tells the truth in most cases. Speak to CM first but if that story is true you should look for another CM

StrawberrySnowflakes · 05/01/2007 16:37

hiya , what happend???

dmo · 07/01/2007 20:17

did you sort it rhubarbcat?

Blandmum · 07/01/2007 20:27

Check with her what happened,

I remember when my dd was 5, I was giving a mates child a lift home from school (also aged 5). I saw an accident, pulled along so the kids couldn't see anything nasty, ran back to see if the person was ok (had fallen off a motor bike). The terribly nice lad (and I'm not being sarky, he really is smashing) told his mum I had run someone over!

If it is really happening, it shouldn't
