A friend's daughter (11 years old) will be coming over to play with DS (15 months) whilst I get on with work each week for 1-1.5 hours. I will be in the house the whole time and it will be round about 3.30pm start. How much do I offer to pay her?

I think leaving a baby with an 11 year old is crazy. It's also illegal to pay anyone under 13 for work undertaken (excepting sports, modelling, acting but you need to get a work licence for children doing these jobs)

I babysat for various aged sleeping children at 11 years old, I've now been a nanny for 29 years, I still have moments when I don't know what the hell I'm doing! But I have been trained in paediatric first aid and know what to do when a child is choking, stops breathing or other medical issues that need immediate attention and adrenaline takes over and I can do what is needed. It happens a lot more than you'd imagine. An 11 year old may not have the common sense not to give a 1 year old a whole grape, a mini egg, a large wodge of freshly baked bread, even a marble, tiny playmobile ball or Lego hair (all things I have saved children from choking on!) only the mini egg one was my charge and she was in the care of my employer at the time, mum ran into the room carrying a blue tinged baby, threw her at me and ran out of the house screaming (she's now 22 and happy and healthy! Boss went on a first aid course very shortly after)

So no, I would not leave an 11 year old in charge of a child, ever.

Give her a fiver every time she comes round she is 11 you are not employing an 11 year old and tbh you might not get any work done she is 11 she might not be able to keep the baby amused for an hour

There are many nannies/mothers helpers that may be interested in a post like this, thought they'd probably want a few more hours.
