They move into the 5-8 age bracket once they are in full time school. I have one who moves in January as well & she then frees up an under 5 space. It only counts as 10 full sessions when they are at school not nursery.
I always charge as an umder 5 space until they are in full time school, as attending school part time is no different to attending playgroup etc for mornings only. It's the education sessions that makes the difference, as when at nursery all day they are still only doing 5 sessions as that is all the funding that the nursery would get, the parents would have to pay for the extra sessions usually.

I was told by the Care Commission ( i do realise you aren't in Scotland), and was told that their last day at nursery is when they are classed as moving into the next age bracket. For example my mindee 3 is not 5 until September, but from the end of June next year - when the school ends for summer, i can class her as being in the next age bracket and then be able to have another under 5.

My inspection was in October and I asked for my under fives number to be increased to three because my own son (4) was now in full time day nursery.
My inspector agreed straightaway and my new certificate arrived within days. No mention at all of him having to be in proper school only for it to count.

shosha - when you had your inspection, you certainly shouldn't have been told that your mindee counted as a 5 year old when at full-time nursery!

As others have said, once she is at full-time school, a 4 year old will count as a 5 year old.

I have this problem each September as my primary school start them in reception as soon as they are 4 years old.

It states in the 'Guidance to the National Standards' for Standard 2.2-2.6 (Childminder Ratios)

"The number of children for whom you may care is stated on your certificate of registration. The following factors are taken into account when deciding on the numbers of children ...

... whether any of the children attend ten early education sessions a week, for example in reception classes, nurseries or pre-schools."
