am i being dim?
because of current probs with one parent i was advised today by CM coordinator to bring in daily registers and get each parent ot sign at drop off and home time..think it sounds good, dont think parent one will take kindly to it as shes that way out at minute, but then at least i know what to charge them if theyre late collecting!?

I think its a good idea in theory but pick up/drop off is sometimes hectic here so imagine i would forget unless i opened the door holding the book!!!! I do keep a note of times but dont get parents to sign them in and out, but I know nurseries do this

dmo · 12/12/2006 18:23

i write down the times the children come and go then both the parent and i sign it on a friday night (oh ok then monday morning

santasaltire · 12/12/2006 18:24

I have to have those. It was something i was pulled up on with the Care Commission inspection i had in May. I am getting one tomorrow, which apparently is 2007's inspection!

dmo · 12/12/2006 18:31

their on the ball!

ayla99 · 12/12/2006 19:19

i asked Ofsted about this at my last inspection and was told its not necessary to sign every day.

I print a monthly sheet using Excel for each child which shows their booked times for each week & the fee due at the bottom of each week. If they are more than a few minutes early or late then I handwrite the time they arrived/were collected & any extra fees due is then written on in red. The parent & I sign at the bottom of each week.

ayla99 · 12/12/2006 19:21

?Lost a paragraph there!?

Some parents I work with would not be happy about signing every day; some don't even have time to leave their car when dropping their school children off in the morning. And some rarely come to my house as we've arranged pickups/drop offs in the playground.

BabyFox · 12/12/2006 20:30

I get parents to sign at the end of the month, along with their fee payment into my account book then me giving them their recipt. Agree about parents running in and out, my parents come round either in an evening or arrive five minutes early on an arranged day.

Ofsted said that as long as I have them signed in and out, when signed is fine as consitant and parents aware of the procduer LOL

Katymac · 12/12/2006 22:44

I have always done a register/daily sign in

But I was told it was for CP issues

TheOriginalXENA · 12/12/2006 23:02

I thought you had to do a weekly signed register?

bmz · 12/12/2006 23:08

I get the parent to sign each week and have no problems. parent quite happy to do it.

ThePrisoner · 13/12/2006 01:12

Isn't this all just so confusing?? So many childminders have been told different things! My inspector was happy so long as I recorded the actual time parents arrived and left. There was no discussion about parents having to sign anything. And yet some of you have been told you need to have stuff signed daily/weekly/sometime/never. My parents would have a jolly good chuckle if I started throwing more paperwork at them for signing.

santasaltire · 13/12/2006 08:00

My Care Commission inspector told me it was so that if there was a fire then the firemen would know how many children were in the house. I argued this though, by pointing out that i wouldn't sign it for myself would I? So my own children could be in the house, but not listed!I also questioned the confidentiality side of it, as the one i have lists(for some reason) how much the parent pays me!
Another of my parents says she feels uncomfortable signing, as she feels it could be used to check up on WFTC!

Katymac · 13/12/2006 08:05

"Another of my parents says she feels uncomfortable signing, as she feels it could be used to check up on WFTC!"

Well & quite rightly too - of course it should be used to check WFTC & also our earning should be crosschecked against the claims for our registration numbers

I hate the black economy - I also hate thieves and people who fiddle the wftc are thieves - they are stealing from the rest of us (both those that pay tax & those that claim benefits legitimately)

I'm not having a go at you Saltire but at the parent who believes it is unfair for the wftc to check whether or not she is spending that money on childcare

StrawberrySnowflakes · 13/12/2006 13:52

so you can actually get official form from somewhere?..will check ncma now so then doesnt look like im being arsy..when in fact i am cos some parents take the mick!

I use a diary

List the children and the parent sign in/out

I alos write deliver @9am or 8:30 - for school drop offs or collect @3:15 for collections ect - so they have arrival and departure times (iyswim)

Tan1959 · 13/12/2006 15:56

I have a daily register that I complete every day. I have never asked parents to sign it! when I had my Ofsted inspection, this issue was not raised with me.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 13/12/2006 16:09

it wasnt Ofsted it was a childcare coordinator who suggestedd as i have prob with constantly late parent both dropping off and collecting.

Tan1959 · 13/12/2006 16:45

In that case, I think getting parents to sign a daily register is a good way forward for you -
tough if the parent doesn't like it

StrawberrySnowflakes · 13/12/2006 19:07

yes think itll help!
looked on ncma and the only one they have is the spiral bound book i already have which i pre fill in so i know hours, think ill have to get a diary or draw up my own sheet?
