i charge retainer for the whole of my christmas holiday, easter holidays anf bank holidays, as my parents are off at the same time they dont need alterative, but dont charge for my summer holiday,

ThePrisoner · 11/12/2006 21:38

I don't charge for bank holidays, so it makes no difference to me as to whether a family claims WFTC or not - it just means that they'll be better off from time-to-time!

I think that you should treat all families the same way, regardless of their tax credits, total income or whatever, if that makes sense.

Most minders I know locally don't charge for Christmas Day or Boxing Day (but we're all old and have been doing it the same way for years).

i charge full fees for bank hols and half fees for all other hols that i have

My CM doesn't charge for BH or her holidays. However I think I might be lucky there. We do apay a retiainer if ness (we sometimes need to keep the space in case) and she is cool like that. TBH I would be pretty shocked if she wnted to charge for BH. She works things out bearing in mind she is have 8 days off for BH and 2 - 4 weeks holidays but she is still cheap!

lottiesmummy · 11/12/2006 22:48

they are my only sourse of income and its not my fault that xmas falls on mon n tues so y shud I loose money, he'll still get it from them so y not

i think for any bank holiday it should be whether you are happy to work that day. If you are happy to mind the child on that day then you should get paid.

uwila · 12/12/2006 08:35

I think if you normally charge for bank holidays and the parents are aware and have agreed to this arrangement then it is fair to also charge for Christmas and Boxing Day. But, if you announce out of the blue without prior agreement that you expect to be paid they might not be willing to agree to it.

When I used a childminder she did charge for Bank Holidays, but did not charge for her own holidays. However, she was also willing to work on the Bank Holiday if I needed her to. I don't think I ever asked her to, but the option was there if I needed it.

I charge full for bank holidays, half for my holiday, and full for parents holidays.

So I'm getting paid for xmas and boxing days full, then half for the three following days, and full for new years day. Parents are also taking odd days off before and after, which they are paying me full for, as I am here and working as they don't coincide with each other. They'd be paying me full even if they didn't coincide, incidentally.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 12/12/2006 13:18

im charging half fees for all of christmas week as ive put the whole week in as my only holiday this year.

BabyFox · 12/12/2006 13:28

I don't charge for bank hols, as it tends to be the only time me and dh get a day off together!! This is on my contract but if parents really needed me I would be double fees. I don't charge when I'm on hols, and half fee for parents hols.

I'm off from 20th Dec-4th Jan no charge which is NOT taken off my hols just again agreed with parents inline with then and my dh having time off work

StrawberrySnowflakes · 12/12/2006 13:33

my contract states that any mindee normally coming on a day which hapens to be back hol is paid even tho i dont work them..if i am asked to work it is double time

LoveMyGirls · 12/12/2006 13:41

im charging

full pay for BH's
half for my hols
full for their hols

Tan1959 · 13/12/2006 15:40

I charge for all bank hols although I don't work them; however, all my mindees are part-time so if their day falls on a b/h, I have always offered them an alternative day (free of charge) apart from over the christmas period. If a mindee is off sick, I do the same, offer an alternative day. I don't charge for my holidays - yet -!

lottiesmummy · 14/12/2006 10:21

spoke to my mindees dad and he's paying me the whole week and given me it off, whoohoo lol
