reason i ask is that (without giving to much detail away) parents of 2 mindees i look after have decided after 5 weeks of being with me that they are emigrating????
im really angry as ive spent £600 equipping my house specifically for these 2 siblings. and i feel they must have known all along that they were going to emigrate.Xmas Angry
my notice period on both sides is 6 weeks,im so angry i cant stand the thought of having to deal with them for another 6 wks, they havent handed notice in yet,so i want to get there b4 they do!
has anyone had to give less than the contracted notice period and if so what happened?
also i think i could state a breach of contract as i was not informed untill the week they started that they suffer from reflux and need daily medication. any advice appreciated.

how old are they?
y did you have to spend so much £ for these two?

sorry just need some facts b4 i decide

KaySamuels · 08/12/2006 09:09

Oh no! I agree they must have known, you can't just decide to emigrate and then up sticks!

do you use NCMA contracts? if you do you could give them a call for advice. hth

xena · 08/12/2006 09:24

You haven't clause that give shorter notice at first? (eg a trial period?) and yes I agree that they would have known or else they are just starting the process and it will take at least 6mths to get visas sell up etc

smeeinit · 08/12/2006 12:07

dmo they are 7 months old and twins hence why i had to spend alot of money,i wasnt registered for under ones when they approached me for childcare.
yes i do use ncma contracts so will give them a ring for advice.

thats the worst when you have siblings as you lose two wages at once if they leave
i would contact ncma and i do agree that you should have been told about their medication b4 they started
i know what you mean by "i cant stand the thought of having to deal with them for another 6 wks"
while they are still with you thought you should advertise their places
personally i dont like babies too much i would rather have over 1's

smeeinit · 08/12/2006 12:28

im more of an over 2s type cm! but have bonded well with the twins, more of shame to piss them about then me,some parents really wind me up!!
i am advertising already and have someone coming round in an hour for 2 full timers who contacted me a few weeks ago but i HAD to turn them down because of the twins!
fingers xd!
also would you accept a notice to end contract by email? because as i understand it it has to be in writing?

OP posts:
dmo · 08/12/2006 12:30

i would just take the e-mail as notice
if these two newbies need you soon i would give the twins notice to finish 1st jan (means only 2 working weeks
fingers crossed for this afto

smeeinit · 08/12/2006 12:36

can i give notice if they already gave it to me tho?

i think you could over rule them as such

ie tell them that u are giving 3 wks notice as you have 2 children lined up to start in the new year

ayla99 · 08/12/2006 16:20

If you give less than the notice period you are expected to pay THEM in lieu of notice.
