CM Club - my on ds being badly behaved in front of parents

HI all,

I have a problem with my 5 year son.
Every time the doorbell rings for a drop off or a pick up you can guarantee that he acts up straight away.
He acts very silly and it's always a case of telling him off when they've gone, and telling him not to act like that again.
He often gets into arguments with some of the mindees and has been in the middle of a few incidents where i've had to explain to the parents why their son/daughter has been upset or hurt etc. It's very embarressing when it's one of my own being the trouble maker and i'm scared that this may cause some of the parents to end contracts.
I would welcome any advise on how to handle this behaviour. I realise that he is objecting to me childminding and is showing signs of jelousy and attention seeking, but am at a loss on how to stop it.
Has anyone else got or had a similar situation with their ds or dd's?

I don't know much about this, and it is obvious that he is after your attention. Maybe when the other children leave you could do more things together and get him involved when they are there. Obviously this is based on me not knowing how much time you spend together alone in the first place. Sorry, it probably wasn't much help.

All kids do this ime, my dd is 7 and everytime a parent comes to visit me (potential client) she acts up even though i have had lots of chats with her about it - she is now getting better because of the chats and the fact if she plays me up i put her to bed early and she hates that.

you could try completely ignoring the behaviour - very fustrating i know but if hes doing it to get your attention you could show him that behaviour doesnt do it and he might try being very good to see what he gets then you can reward him?? just say to the parents im very sorry about xxx today he's going through a bit of a phase when new people come round.

one of my mindees whose 3 plays up when baby mindees mum is here - hard because he's not mine and yesterday he just kept saying i hate you i hate you in front of her, which was of course very embarrassing but i just stayed very calm and dealt with him - whilst giving her a look as if to say "you know what kids are like, no? well you'll understand when yours gets older"

btw as soon as she had gone he was all sorry and loving, cuddled me and said i love you - kids are so fickle. It's always worse when he's tired.

Another thing i sometimes did/do when dd1 was being very bad was send her to her room to play about 5 mins before they arrive so that she doesnt keep interupting/ playing up when im trying to hand over.

Again, my 3 1/2 year old ds is exactly the same. He seems to go hyperactive and completly mad whenever a parent is here. He knocks over the LO's and repeatedly leaps on me. He usually ends up in time out while I explain to the parents that he is not like this all day long! So embaracing!
I'm hoping he'll grow out of it soon
