Does anyone have a written policy for what happens if the parent/s don't turn up to collect their child? How long do you wait etc.

Would like to have a read through and get opinons if possible. All of my councils training courses are booked up at the moment so am a bit in the blue about written policies. Have done most of them but not this one yet.

Would really appreciate some help if poss

My friend works at nursery & they charge £5 for every 15 mins or part thereof.
I don't think there's a limit to how long they would wait - the parents soon learn not to be late!

Oh sorry I wasn't very clear. I mean a policy that covers if the parents don't turn up and you can't contact them. How long would you wait to call your back up emergency contact (other person to get the child) and if and when you would call police SS etc.

Length of time could vary depending how far parent has to travel from work to your home, bearing in mind they will not always be coming from their usual place of work directly to you (doctor/dentist/mot/day off/meeting/training etc).

UNCOLLECTED CHILD POLICY

Obviously things can happen at the last minute which can cause delays; where-ever possible please telephone me to let me know when you expect to arrive. If your child is not collected at the agreed time, I will of course continue to care for your child, however late fees as detailed on your contract document will be applied to this overtime period. If you are more than thirty minutes late and have not contacted me I will use the emergency contact numbers you have provided to attempt to contact you, or if I cannot contact you then one of the persons you have authorised to collect your child.

If I am unable to make arrangements for you or your emergency contacts to collect your child within a reasonable time and you still have not contacted me then I will contact both the Police and Social Services and follow their advice.

yes i have a policy along those lines
if child is not collected within 30 mins then phone calls to parents/relatives will be made
if no contact is made then the social services will be called

ps look up the number of your local social services and keep it safe took me ages to find mine

this was one of the only policies i didnt have and was written as a required point on my ofsted report this year!! mine is very similar to ayla99 and has been passed to all parents!

Hi, sounds like you are probably sorted for this policy but you mentioned being a bit stuck on written policies, there are some NCMA examples here HTH

SillyBillyBee · 04/12/2006 21:50

that link takes you to the homepage, go to downloads and the sample policies are there

I'm not a childminder but work for an out of school activity. The policy sounds very similar to ours.

The only instance I know of this happening was where a mother was involved in a car accident on her way to collect her child.
